True but health professionals should not be taking action that will be detrimental to patient care

What if it's beneficial in the long run? Strike action is very rare and short, contingency plans are always in place to assure patient care does not suffer.

Which tax cuts have helped the high earners? From what i see they now pay 52% tax in comparison to 41% under labour? The personal allowance has gone from 7475 3 years ago to 10000 thats 500 better off for most low earners, the higher earners lose their allowance at 100k earnings. This is classic making stuff up.

Osborne reduced the higher rate of income tax from 50p to 45p in 2012.

Raising the personal allowance only benefits those earning above it. Unemployed or underemployed people earning less than £7,475.00 in the first place, some of the very worst off people, wouldn't be a penny better off from it being raised.

And that's before we get to some of the corporation tax dodges like Vodafone.

I see your point but its still 47% now in comparison to 41% in 2009. If they were making cuts wouldnt they just put it back to 41%?

I presume know minimum wage is £6.50 an hour now... so those earning 7475 or less, only work 22hours a week, so could actually go and work harder to earn more rather than moan about how the increase doesnt affect them. Or they are being topped up by working tax credit or child tax credit which if they are wont be the "worst off people".

Vodafones corporation tax dodges doesnt make the higher earners better off though seeing as its a plc anyone can buy shares in it

Why are you bringing companies into personal tax discussions?

Are nurses paid dismally?

.

Not so much these days, some are well paid and deservedly so but the point is should they get an annual rise? If the government and public sector can't afford it then fair enough but when a so called independent review give MP'S an 11% rise then then that's when it gets unfair and people react.

That was I belive the argument put to its members by UNISON that whilst today would affect patient care today, in the long run it would benefit patient care

IMO as a matter of principle health professionals should not take any action that would knowingly adversely affect patient care

Plus they don't run the NHS so it's not their call

Top post.

For me NHS shouldn't be allowed to strike, potentially putting innocent people's lives in greater risk.

Thanks for your support. In the past, public sector wages were behind private sector average earnings. The justification for that used to be that public sector pensions were generally better than the private sector. However, that situation has reversed over the last few years (thank you Labour party!!) and the public sector average wage is now ABOVE private sector and public sector pensions are still safeguarded and generally much better than for private sector workers--that's if private sector workers have any pension at all? Your choice public sector workers, but don't forget all salaries/pensions you receive are paid for out of taxation and that affects all of us!!!!!!!!!!

The MP's suggested increase hasn't yet been voted on or implemented. However if my MP decides to take such a large increase, she definitely won't be getting my vote next May!

These are the same MP's who took a 5% pay cut the other year and pay freezes until 2015. It costs approx 5m for the increase in their pay, the increase for the NHS on standard pay alone would be 450m, added to the 1bn in incremental rises they automatically get.

MPs are grossly underpaid anyway

Pay em 100K min and look at the whole second home thing. Build a big premier Inn and put them in there if they need a london base

I must be ill or something as i agree with this too.

MPs are paid 60kish which for people making decisions for the entire country is crap. Im sure there are bosses on the NHS on far more than this.

There are IT and HR managers in a local NHS trust down here who are on more than that
