It's an investment and the area is on the up

Don't investments have guaranteed returns?

I'd say it's more of a gamble myself. It's great if it pays off and they start challenging for a place in the PL but what happens if they fail next season? Is it back to League One with a £15m (well perhaps not £15m but still significant) debt in tow...

Depends what you're investing in. Buying shares on the stock market is often described as an investment, and it is when it pays off. But in that sense it is more of a gamble. The only difference is that you get something tangible in return for an investment.

Frankly speaking, and I know I will get shot down for this, despite his flaws, I prefer NS to a Russian who, as has been said, might get bored and pull the plug. If I am any judge of character, Smurf will not walk away having spent the money he has so far.

Aren't Brentford doing exactly the same as Bournemouth did?

Their average gate is less than 10,000 and is simply not big enough for them to progress much further,Champions Leicester have a current average of 24,606 and even runners-up Burnley have 13,719 even though the population of the town is only 73,000.

Four teams in League One Wolves,Sheff.Utd,Bradford and Brisol City have realistic hopes of progressing along with Pompey in League Two who all have average gates over the 10,000 mark.

Having read that I've come to the opinion that theres no point in bothering..........................The fat cats in the premier league are bleeding the football league dry and will only be satisfied when they are the last ones standing and then they will then turn on each other.

For Bournemouth to be in debt to that amount is pure lunacy they dont the gates to come anywhere near servicing that loss.

The dream that you can succeed and rise through the leagues is dead.

If you are a small club like Bournemouth yes, especially with a capacity of only 12,000,they need to expand a bit and get a new stadium like Brighton.

Investment in what? The article says they built some training pitches and a new club shop? And then there's been a massive outlay on the pitch with wages particularly. They owe £7.5m in lonas payable by October, let's hope the new owner doesn't get bored or it's curtains for The Cherries.......

Ashton Gate to get a £40m renovation in the summer.

Not sure you can blame the Premier League if a Football League club chooses to spend beyond their means to chase the dream. The likes of Blackpool and Burnley did it without spending much so it can be done.....

I think you can blame the premier league for a lot of the ills of modern day British football, 1) How many transfers are made from the football league to the premier league as opposed to an unknown kid from Spain or Brazil 2) how many English players are developing for the future national team.

You also have the situation of the Wolves and in particularly Moxey bragging how well they have done this season when they have done it on the back of parachute payments thus making it virtually impossible for smaller clubs like Port Vale to compete.

Clubs are having to overspend to grab on to the shirt tails of the fat cats.
