Page in temporary charge

Port Vale Football Club has announced that Manager Micky Adams will temporarily step down from his duties to undergo hip surgery following Vale’s 3-2 victory over Coventry City.

In the meantime Robert Page will take over first-team duties, assisted by Assistant Manager Mark Grew.

Micky Adams said: “I am having surgery on my hip next week, this needs to be done to ensure my long-term health.

“It is great that I am going into this surgery with a win and a great performance under our belts and I am looking forward to returning to the dugout as soon as possible.

“In the meantime Rob Page will take over and will be assisted by Mark Grew and I have every confidence that they will help Vale continue on from this great win today.”

Its an opportunity for Page to prove himself.

Like otheers I am delighted its him over Grew, think it was by far and away the most sensible decision :)

Maybe I am reading too much into this but didn't Micky say he hoped to have the surgery on a Monday and then be back for the Saturday game recently. Either the surgeon has told him thats impractical or maybe this is the beginning of the end for his relationship with the club. I do hope its the former rather than the latter after the good he has done for our club.

I suppose it's a brilliant opportunity for the club to assess the capability if page in order for a smooth transition if/when Adams leaves. However it does strike me as odd, as why didn't he do it in the summer?

If he doesn't return, as much as I'm not overly fond of him, after today's result he leaves us in a far stronger position than when he came. And for that I have to be grateful.

Bull**** misleading headline alert!!!

Maybe, just maybe.....

'Adams hip op sidelines him for Tranmere game'

Less of a sensationalist headline I know but this forum isn't a tabloid newspaper ***!

The man himself says he'll be back 'as soon as possible'. Whose to say that'll be the game after Tranmere? He'll have to see how it goes.
