If Wildes has gone (and I will be very sorry if this is the case) that leaves "The Smurf" in charge. A man clearly with enormous enthusiasm, who has fallen in love with the Vale. We do not know his strengths, but some question his knowledge of football. Well, after events at many clubs this season you could ask that question of many who own and run football clubs.

 

However, could this be the moment for the "The blessed John of Burslem" to return as Director of Football? He's a free agent now and recent quotes indicate a new willingness to undertake one last challenge in football.

Not sure MA would be wanting this. Could he come back in another capacity, as a Board Member, maybe, advisor to the new owner in some way? He has no axe to grind with MA or anyone left at the club one suspects, so perhaps he could come back in some capacity?

I'm sure he would be happier with Rudge than wildes. But at the end of the day, Adams is an employee and doesn't make such appointments.

to be honest it's a good shout because norman has the passion but not the knowledge by his own admission, rudgie would be a great person for him to have around

That was exactly the role I envisaged for JR, while he could advise Norm as well. MA would be left to manage the first team with no intervention from anyone else.

Why? surely it depends on JR's role and I dont think JR would want to get involved with first team affairs. Smurf has been reported as saying himself (in the Sentinel) that he and Wildes knew little about football, which was very relevant after the Bristol Rovers game. Apart from keeping an eye on the Development squad and building an Academy to be proud of, JR could advise on the "business of football" not the management of the first team.

No, but has been through the mill, and knows the club, so should be considered part of the team and able to contribute to the future plans. He will have enough on his plate with the 1st team, without having to organise the rest of the football area.
