Grew

I for one hope that Grew stays at the club in some capacity. He is true vale, an honest man (well, fa cup tickets aside), not afraid to speak his mind (against gannon, against the board, against the players etc) and can always be relied upon to do his bit to the best if his abilities.

He may not be the right man for the managers job in many peoples eyes, but lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Employees like MG are difficult to find for any business, let alone one in the fickle world of football. Lets keep grew at the club please, no matter who is in the boardroom next season.

Passion alone is no good, i could show passion for the job but it doesnt make a manager/coach or anything else. we need a clean sweep

Funny how it was Gannon's fault whilst he was here but now Grew is blaming the players. Surely if JG was so incompetent, Grew & Horsefield could have eased us into the playoffs. Get rid. No manager will feel comfortable until some of these lifers are chucked out.

Grew's always been true to Vale - while they're paying his wages.

Average player, poor coach/manager - get rid, we can do better.

Sorry for sounding harsh but its the truth and we need to get out of this habit of 'jobs for the boys' and bringing back ex-players etc..

Mark doesn't want the manager's job and has said so himself. He's stepped in whilst the board ponder a replacement (different thread altogether) whilst a lot of other people might of run for cover given the task of trying to make play offs etc.

I believe he is more than happy to continue with the youth and that's fine with me.

I agree we need to get away from the mentality of offering former players a route into management/coaching at a whim but in Mark's case there is no reason to axe him altogether.

There is no doubt from any supporter who witnessed the games when Gannon was in charge that it was he alone who destroyed our season.

Grew was right to criticise the players as we all know that they have never put in a full shift like they did under Adams, it was always going to be difficult for Grew & Horsfield to get us back to where we were under Adams.

We can all blame Gannon and /or Grew & Horsfield, but the fact remains that it was THE PLAYERS who let the supporters and themselves down. They wanted Gannon out and they got their wish and the opportunity to push on for promotion with enough games left to achieve their aim, they didnt do it for whatever reason.

Grew & Horsfield were left in a situation not of their own making when Adams left, They did their best under Gannon and stepped up to the plate when he was sacked. Their loyality deserves more than the sack when it was the players from 2 previous managers that let the supporters down so badly.

A new manager should be given the opportunity to choose his No 2 and who knows, he may see in Grew & Horsfield the same skills and attributes that Adams saw and that served us so well before Gannon messed it all up.

Grew is a Vale legend no doubting it.

But he has been here for all of our decline over the last 11 years starting under Horton the season we got relegated from the Championship.

One of the main problems at the Vale has been that it is all too "chummy." I knew Gannon would be sacked (no bad thing, granted) the moment I saw that photo in the Sentinel of Grew hugging Horsefield after busgate.

Root to branch please.

So that Photo was taken after Busgate was it? And how exactly can you tell?Couldn't possibly be the Sentinel being mischevious, particularly since GH was on Gardening leave. Whats wrong with having a good atmosphere between coaching staff? Are you Jim Gannon?
