Hughesy has now scored 6 goals in 8 starts (& he has still to complete a full game) this is a remarkable strike rate for any player let alone one in the twilight of his career, still divides opinion with the fans & I take nothing away from Popey who's been brilliant up to now, but Hughesy has got to be our main striker for the remainder of the season, he could be the one to fire us up::yes:

Hughes has to start! its as simple as that!! take him off after an hour for Ben Wil. I'm sure Popey wouldnt mind in the slighest if Hughes was to get the goals to take us over that finishing line. It would still go down as the best season Popey has had professionally. Were all in it together.

I think Hughes played the whole of the Southend game but I'd agree if he's fit enough then he should play from the start, I believe he was very good today, his experience will be invaluable during the run in.

Agree 100%.

 

If he can keep up the strike rate he has produced all of his career then we will have 3-4 key goals for the run in from him alone.

What impressed me (apart from his goal) was his leadership and organisational qualities, particularly when we were defending set pieces. He was marshalling our players at times. He also told JMW where he wanted the ball for his goal, 10 seconds before JMW released it. A true asset to the team and glad we have him.

He has admittedly taken time to adjust to to the players and varying systems, but he is getting better game by game & is now showing his true quality, just like the young player I remember at West Brom who was a constant thorn in our side, great signing

I was sceptical about the value of Hughes but am pleased to admit that I was wrong when I said he wouldn't score 5 goals before the end of the season. Best game I have seen him play for us today, just a shame that his 1-2 with Tom Pope didn't quite come off near the end or Tom might have been on the score sheet too.
