heard a rumour that we are planning to replace the pitch for next season digging out 10 feet getting rid of the clay and putting proper drainage sprinkler system in dont shoot the messenger only a rumour!!

Rumour or not, that's exactly what's needed.

Big bucks though - upwards of £3m (based on 10 foot dig).

Where possible football should be played on grass, artificial pitches are useful in Russia, parts of Africa and Asia where the temperature isnt ideal for a grass pitch. But I do not want to see artificial pitches everywhere tbh lets stick to grass it adds another variable to a match. I can understand clubs in Norway and Northern Scotland having plastic pitches but not temperate places like here.

Perhaps they are planning to find a mineshaft and use thet as a big drain? I wunna dig that deep we could be in rayt ****. Probably find an old seam and then we'd be bollarded

Try turning in a sea of mud or a bog like we have at Vale.

The pitch was disgusting and unfortunately will remain so for quite a few more games yet

We will have to learn to try and beat the pitch aswell

After all the snow and rain, any use would make it do that. It does need to be addressed , and I wonder if the combination of grass and plastic weave would do the trick. I'm just not a fan of plastic pitches. Apart from injuries , the game itself suffers , with the bounce of the ball etc, and when wet , it can be quite dangerous.

Years of neglect has taken it`s toil, Speedy does a great job, but drains need regular and expensive attention. Maybe top dressing and fertilizer were skimped, but above average rain periods overwhelm the system. It may not be an isolated year, but a change in the climate that will have to be catered for with a better drainage system and a more sandy base. Sponsorship by JCB could be useful?
