Better 2nd or 3rd ?

It may seem madness to suggest, and those who have big wagers riding on Vale finishing as Champions of League 2 will fume at the suggestion, but I have to ask myself (and you) to consider...

Would it be better for Port Vale fans if we finished 2nd or 3rd rather than as runaway Champions ?

The reason? There is already a thread on the BBC 'Best Manager' league table, which one poster has said is attracting a lot of comments from MA admirers. If we pull away at the top and win the division easily, will we pay a price by losing either/or our manager and best players ?

AS LONG AS WE GO UP ! The same logic applies to Tom Pope, who I know has just signed a new contract but everyone has a price and we will need him if and when we are pushing on in League 1. So in some ways I want Tom to continue his superb form but perhaps the goals to be spread around.

I accept I might might get a few negative votes for asking, but it is a valid debatable point.

I am in my 42nd year of following the Vale, i have seen 4 promotions, but will die a happy man knowing i have seen my team become champions !

Couldn't agree more even though I am only in my 41st year of following the Vale. To be champions is really something special.

I think people are getting ahead of themselves. I was nine when Vale won the first ever 4th division title, but it's only a vague memory.

It's quite easy for a team to lose 4 on the trot and then panic can set in. Let's get tomorrow out of the way, before we start wondering when we'll start playing Man Utd in the league.

3rd will do me fine.

If/when we get promoted, I hope Wildes and Smurf are prepared for the abuse they'll get if we don't win every week.(not from me I hasten to add)

Being Champions is special, although it does not always help in the next season. I remember my 2, away at Rochdale and the head to head with Coventry at home. Hoping for a hat-trick but a way to go yet, but it looks promising, as does the preparations for next season.
