There are so many aspects to be taken into account here. First of all Tom must look after his family. The question is though would a bigger club look after Tom Pope?. Think about it if Tom leaves for a higher level team, what would they and their fans expect of him?. 20-25 goals a seasonis is my guess.

That is immense pressure and if he doesn't receive good service then the chances of him getting anywhere near that figure is practically nil. In no time at all Tom could be on a downer and back where he was two years ago.... an outcast.

 

At this time 'The Pope' is rightly riding high but the higher the horse the bigger and harder the fall.

 

My thoughts are that the new owners should dig deep and offer Tom a bigger and better deal and reward him for his efforts and then my advice to Tom would be stay with the club 'where your heart is'. There more be a bigger and brighter deal out there but in the longer term becoming a real 'Port Vale Legend' is by far the better option and may be the most profitable over the remainder of his career.

 

football is littered with plenty of bad transfers.

I'm not claiming to be in the know or anything like that its just the conversation I had with the person who told me about the contract situation. I hope he has signed it as much as anyone when I see the person again I will ask him/her

 

The contract automatically extended for a further year after Pope scored 15 goals.
