I was invited to go to see the Texas Rangers baseball yesterday. I am not a big fan of baseball but, just as the previous time I went there, I was in awe of the marketing. The audio-visual stuff they use, though not up to perhaps the Olympic Stadium or even Cowboys Stadium right next door, is awesome. The sponsorship is evident in everything that goes on. And every square inch of space is rented out to folks selling stuff - even a booth selling NFL gear at a baseball game.

I was reminded of an article I read the other day about the biggest sports "franchises" in the world. Man Utd is number one according to Forbes 2012 List followed by Real Madrid but then come the Yankees and the Cowboys.

The key thing about the Cowboys, I read, is how proficient they are at extracting the maximum revenue out of the stadium. The Cowboys have won jack squat for years and yet they still have the best stadium in the NFL and the biggest revenue - more than $100 million annually from premium seating and nearly $60 million from stadium sponsors.

My point? We have one of the best stadiums in this league and we should be aiming to squeeze the maximum out of it by learning from the best, Those who suggest we should leave VP and go for a smaller stadium are off their heads.

Best wishes to the folks who, despite our financial plight, are trying to reach higher when it comes to the commercial activity.

What a refreshingly positive "off the pitch" post. Food for thought there.
