League Two Title

Recommended Posts

I for one are not expecting much! I just hope we can stop the rot! And the loosing mentality. Plus we need to be much much fitter! And be able to play for 90 minutes plus! Sorry mid table at best.

Look at the National League Tables: Oldham, Rochdale, Southend, York , Darlington, Scunthorpe, Chester, Yeovil if you think it can’t happen to us. For the first time in my life I  really fear that we will be getting another aeronautical visit from the neighbours this time next year.

Don’t be silly, those clubs were run by deadbeat morons who should never have been running football clubs. If Norman Smurfwaite can keep us in the Football League, our amazingly well run club with St Dame Carol should have no such worries.

Bill Bratt guided Vale through the darkest period in recent times. He deserves a statue in the  car park.

Wouldn’t go that far, but the longer we have these tedious periods in the 4th division, it makes his early period of league 1 mid table stability look like a golden age.

An interesting point for me is, is our relegated league 1 squad better than our promoted league 2 side?

I think it might be if you include the strengths of Garrity, Chislett and a far better keeper. I miss Worrall but otherwise despite the rose tinted glasses of the playoff campaign, this was still a limited squad. Wilson was still injured for periods as was Proctor. Harratt was not around for long.

Remember despite the decent league 1 run under Clarke early on, the squad at the end of the season was nearly relegated too!

Interesting view that, we had Connor Hall, Mel Benning & Gibbo who are all better than what we have just to name 3, I'd prefer Proctor off the bench than Loft or Uche as well & I am sure there will be others but more importantly it was more about the team ethic & will to win that makes the lge 2 side better than the current lot in my opinion.

It's funny how Bill Bratt appears to be using Vale being rubbish again as an opportunity to rewrite history.

Did anyone go to the 'talk' he gave in a pub in Burslem on Valentine's Day?

Don't forget we had a shocking keeper in league 2 ! Tried his best to loose us the play offs !

Definitely one of the weaker links in that squad. For me this illustrates the gap in quality between the 2 divisions.  We could allow Stone to make the errors he did and still have a decent season.

I’d say our promotion team was miles better as a team, we had good characters who worked hard but also worked as a team, I’d have taken the likes of Gibbons, Worrall, Pett, Benning, Hall, Proctor, Harratt, Edmondson over most of the current lot, even some of the fringe players like Jake Taylor or Brad Walker offered more than some of this seasons squad players, as I’ve said previously I hope only the likes of Garrity, Chislett, Ripley, Plant, Dipepa, Shorrock and Maybe Mitch Clark and Iacovitti are part of the squad next season I don’t really fancy watching the others again!

Absolutely, the points Covalan and Stone cost us were unbelievable and even in that golden season we hit some real lows. Colchester away was appalling under Crosby was one of the worst days out of football ever. People at the time who said telling him to get the sack, as I did, following that, were being mental evidently never went.

It was really bad, no club should have played like that given how well we were doing.
