January Transfers and Rumours

Perhaps you're right and in the know - I certainly don't know who they are targeting...

However, signing Young would directly contradict some of the stuff said in the fans forum last night that is the Vale - will probably only get loans in this window, permanent moves are too high in this window , the best time to recruit permanent players is in the summer, they are looking outside of the UK as transfer fees are too high etc...

Yes can't see it myself either.

I understand two loanees might be the best option to keep us going but in all honesty this feels like last season 'weve got enough to stay in the league and keep our cash until the summer'

It's a gamble and last season it didn't work out very well.

Maybe the fact we don't play with wingers ? Look how little game time Amoo got.

Recommended by Ville Viljanen our Scandinavian scout.

i read chris mbamba there for a second!

anyone else use their spotify for ale & vale podcast? Cant get mine on last couple of days it seems to have gone down? Cant say i'm missing Amos & his waffle like but quite like Bezza 😂

I dont think we are in the same boat as last January at this stage, we've not lost any key players who were permanents at this stage and replacing the 4 loanees with 5 more assuming 2 more come in. Last year we signed a half fit Matty Taylor on deadline day and Aaron Donnelly on loan who ended up playing out of position every week to replace Connor Hall. Brad Walker and Harry Charsley.

We've lost Conlon who wasnt playing, Arblaster and replaced by Weir who was outstanding last season for Morecambe, Devine for Gore who is as highly rated, Kofi Balmer has been replaced by Rhys Williams who has played EPL and Champions League football and you'd expect Thomas to be replaced but he didn't really get much look in anyway.

Obviously if we lose a couple of big players this coming few days and dont replace then we will be in a different situation though.

Amen to that brother 🙌🏻

Probably means Will Evans is getting sold.

Maybe but not necessarily. Newport have been bought by Hew Jenkins, former Swansea chairman so maybe their transfer budget has gone up and they are strengthening their squad rather than bringing in a replacement?

If that’s the plan when are we going to start with it? At the moment we’re signing loan players to get us to the next window, loan players leave and then replace with more loans.  We’re never going to develop this way

KTF , Let's see what happens mate

Fans forums as much as I like to hear about them they answer questions specifically they hardly going tell you they got a big signing up there sleeve are they .

To be honest if all our players were available for selection I agree with Carol we have a very good squad of players even the completely not so great ones are not that bad in reality .

However because of injuries and players  when they do return will need a few games get up to speed, if any more get injured asking a lot of the likes of lomax Dipepa and Shorrock as much as there potentially good players the contrast example in performance levels of lomax and Shorrock in games v Barnsley and Carlisle were eye opening that they could go to absolutely superb too making no impact whatsoever so personally at business end of season I do not want them selected for any away game personally with games becoming must win especially if those below start regularly winning .

So in a way they are gambling that what we have is enough .

I think we will be just fine personally , as Chislett is just world class and Uche if his hearts in it will for me in the next phase of the season net some big goals ,Wilson to me is absolutely outstanding since back and even Massey has improved somewhat .

Grant will come good can see him smashing a great goal in soon .

I think we have goals in us .

Defensively Adam Yates said we were strong I beg to differ lets hope Williams can strengthen us somewhat.

We have a very good goalkeeper cannot be bothered look at how many he as conceded but a man of his excellence should be conceding no more than say 60 goals a league season his distribution his superb so I expect a fair few clean sheets now from Mr Ripley.

Chislett is good mate but I think saying he's world class is a slight exaggeration 👍😂

I don't think that's the case - it's just that Vale are having to address it one position per window at a time...

Let's take goalkeeping... for a couple of seasons we had sub-standard signings padded out by loanees. For last season, for over half the season we had Jack Stevens, a loanee. That fits your method of padding out positions with loanees. But then we put in more budget in the summer and got Connor Ripley, who's good for a few years I would hope. That has effectively sorted out the GK position long-term.

The club say they want to do the same with forwards this summer - that is address that position by allocating more budget to it to get a higher quality player(s) in. That would potentially sort that position for a couple of years IF they get it right.

Clearly even then there's still gaps but I guess the club can only do it one position at a time unless they get a cash windfall somehow.

However, there is also the parallel long-term project of bringing young homegrown kids in. So, I guess potentially they would perhaps hope that the likes of Shorrock would sort out the LWB, Walters come into central midfield etc. Clearly some of the kids won't make it but if one or two join Plant in the squad then that would also resolve those positions too.

So, yes there is a reliance on loans to fill the gaps right now, but I do think there is a plan to bring in permanent and youth players (and then the Vale can look at adding loanees that add value rather than using them as 'cover' for a lack of permanent signings) - but it's just a slow process and doesn't fill all the gaps yet.
