Sentinel: John Askey on Port Vale's midfield strength and Nottingham Forest's Jake Taylor

Yes, Askey has pretty much ruled it out in that article, and insinuating that he's signed Whitehead instead. Was fairly obvious I suppose when Whitehead's signing was announced.

I would say never say never.

if there was a chance we could get Taylor back, we probably would, he liked it here last season, he was looked after well( when his car was vandalised) so if he had a say in it that goes a long way.

and a top half L 2 club is better than a bottom half L 1 club.

I imagine it's the same with Clark, now that we've signed Mills and Crookes is fit.

Probably just a reserve keeper and a striker now.

I'd be quite happy with that. And there's always the loan market - where Askey did well last year.

Regarding Taylor, I think it's more of a question of Forest wanting him to play at a higher level rather than us not wanting him. And because he did so well here then there are surely 3-4 league one clubs who would be looking at him (eg. Lincoln, Shrewsbury, Doncaster). It's a higher standard of football and better for Taylor to try and go up a notch than remain in league two. It's entirely understandable.

I do think that bird has now flown. We've also got Manny back as well as Whitehead, so already have an extra midfielder to pick from. Taylor's goals, however, will be missed. The others will have to step up to the plate and replace what he gave us.

I thought it was Clark that he said about being more likely in January?

You're right, fair enough. Hopefully the same story.
