Thanks rob, great game, great atmosphere, great result.

we weren’t hanging on for 90 mins either, we were playing them off the park for long periods.

In my lifetime I THINK the furthest we've been was the year we had the away tie at spurs.

Think that was round 4 and we'd beaten three championship teams at home rounds 1-3

QPR, Norwich and someone else

Stand to be corrected though!

Pretty sure you're right.

The cup run of 1991/92 was: bye (we finished high enough in Division 2 the year before), Notts County away and Liverpool.

The only other time I can think we got to round 3 was 96/97, having beat Crewe and Carlisle over two legs before losing a replay at Oxford on Fireworks Night.

That has to be my proudest day as a Vale fan. Like a few on here I have seen all the big games (and most of the dross) since the early 60’s but none match this ! Result, atmosphere, standard of opposition, everything ! Even better than the 0-0 at Highbury !

Super entertainment !

I tend to agree.

What made it so good was that we scored. And a couple of goals! So often it's a battling defensive display, a 0-0 draw at best, or we barely trouble our higher league opponents but that night we scored twice at Anfield. Wonderful. And the equaliser was right in front of us.

I remember that night very fondly. Totally out-sung the kop that night, It has to be in my all-time top 3 atmospheres being a Vale fan. Thanks Rob.

Remember the game well. Unfortunately I also remember the replay at VP.

The other team was preston who we beat in the 1st round
