Micky Adams autobiography

Doha

Recommended Posts

Read it on the beach in Crete last week and thought it was a good read. Probably because being an old git I knew a lot of the people mentioned in the book. I would have liked a bit more info on the Ryan Burge incident but there wasn't, why !! who knows it could be he may not smell of roses or it wasn't that big a deal.

I got my copy hardback £13.50 including postage through Amazon if anyone is looking for a good deal.

tried amazon but they were out of stock so I went to the publishers site , suppose the extra is for the signature.

Thanks for the comments from those who have read it. I think I'm going to add it to my Xmas list on the strength of some of those remarks. Cheers.

Going to do the same, got plenty to keep me occupied until then anyway. Looking forward to it!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who got this in my Christmas stocking.

I'm really enjoying it and it does give an insight into his way of thinking but flipping 'eck the guy certainly knows how to swear

I've always considered him a manager from the English old school of bawling, shouting, swearing and get-stuck-in. It has something of an effect but is hugely outdated nowadays because full fitness is a given in all teams or you won't compete and the same goes for work rate and motivation, they are no longer things you can readily gain an advantage with, you have to have them simply to be on a par with most opposition.

However, I've also always considered him to be more tactically able than the likes of Peter Reid. I saw that documentary about him when he was Sunderland manager and it genuinely shocked me how bad a manager he was; bawling, shouting, every other word an expletive, all get-stuck-in and no tactical instructions whatsoever.

I'm glad to say I think in Aspo we have a manger who's got the full set, tactically capable, rational, knows what's needed and only does the bawling when it's needed, use it sparingly and it then has some effect.

All I'd say to Mickey is 'cheers and thanks for the memories, it was a great time for us'.
