First goal was offside but Smith lost his man. Also Tonge was in the wrong position blocking no pass whatsoever allowing their player to turn. Terrible defending.

 

Impossible to tell from the replay angle if the Chesterfield guy is offside, look at Wilson not Smith you may change your mind, very close.

 

Kay was pulled out of position by their No10 exposing Smith and creating a 2 on 1 (No8 with ball/Scorer/Smith) around/middle of the D, Smith has no option but to move towards the man with the ball(No 8), if he goes with the scorer then the man with the ball (No8) runs through on goal, therefore Smith has to move towrds the man with the ball (No8), he didn't lose his man. It was a cleverly worked goal but if the Vale defense had played longer together they may not have been so easily pulled in different directions. The absense of someone in front of Smith and Kay also contributed, this is where Pugh usually is.

 

Second goal the keeper shouldn't parry the ball into the middle of the box. They are taught thats as bad as conceeding from a young age these days.

 

Of course the keeper shouldn't and they've always been taught to parry the ball to the side but when a ball is travelling so fast it's hard to control where it goes.

 

Not huge errors but not good enough yet. We had some good chances in the first 30 mins and in the second we had a couple of half chances to pull the game back but were just not there.

 

Im sure this is tactics and not ability, so IF Brown can get those right we will be fine.

 

We had good chances to score in both halves, their 1st goal was against the run of play according to the media, how their keeper kepy Pope's header out I do not know.

 

To me it was a closer game than 2-0 but the only numbers that count are goals for and against, we matched them well but didn't score, their 1st goal was well worked, 2nd goal forunate.

 

I thing we will be fine, there's some good players in that team.
