Any idea what's happening with him? Has anyone signed him yet? Could it be argued that it's a bit of a mistake to let him carry on playing on loan for a club when we're apparently selling him?

He is back at Chester on loan for the rest of the season so he won't be going anywhere until May at the earliest.

I don't know how long he is contracted under us for, but I think Brown/whoever needs to take a good hard look at him at the end of the season when he comes back from Chester, & get rid if he's not good enough. He'll be 23 & really should be looking to make an impact by then, if not, no point wasting more wages on a player who's going to just sit on the bench or in reserves.

Wouldn't look to do anything until then though.

Lloyd is under contract till the end of the season and it's likely he'll then join Chester.

Vale did turn down a bid from Southport but it looked like Lloyd didn't want to go there and would prefer to stay at Chester where he had a good relationship with the team, fans and manager.

I guess it's a goodwill gesture/gesture of care from the club to let the player decide where he wants to play rather than forcing him into a move against his will.

I personally think it's a good thing as it shows that Vale will look after their players and although in the short-term we may have missed out on a small fee, in the long-term it may make us more attractive to players if they see they will be looked after.

p.s. the above is how I read it I could well be wrong in my interpretation of events

To be fair though Rob, a player can't really be pressured into going elsewhere against his will just because the fee is bigger can he? Surely someone who is contracted to play for a team can't be forced to leave & play for someone else if they don't want to without agreeing personal terms first (unless the parent club pays them off their own books obviously)?

Also, as much as it's nice to see us 'taking care' of players, I don't think we can afford to make a habit of doing this to the extent where it might be wasting money on players which won't be used, or them seeing us as an easy ride.

Yes that's what I was getting at - that you can't force him to move...

Oh yeah, I just wouldn't go as far to say gesture of goodwill I guess. After all, it makes more sense for both him & us to go to/stay at a side doing well, rather than Southport who are hovering above the relegation zone.
