Policing at football games

I hope these incidents are the exception rather than the norm but this is dreadful. The guy is walking along and is shoved from behind seemingly for doing nothing. Even if he was (unseen) swearing or abusing the police that's still no way to act.

 

Judging by the way the police have "managed" recent high profile Vale games, it does look like they still have a long way to go before they get it 100% right...

I'm currently reading the updated edition of Phil Scratton's book on Hillsborough. It's hard not to weep when reading some of the eye witness stuff but he frequently asserts that the main problem with the police on the day is that they focussed on the prospect of hooliganism rather than the issues of crowd safety. Whilst matters have undoubtedly improved considerably since then I get the feeling that some police forces still have this mindset. Sadly, there is still a small minority of fans who provide some justification for this.

The incident highlighted by robf is disgraceful, however without their presence match day would be carnage.

At least nowadays evidence is easily collected by onlookers, improper behaviour is less likely to be overlooked.

Police are humans in daft hats at the end of the day. Some of them love fighting and being hooligans too.

 

Those are the ones gradually but unstoppably being removed from a job they should not be doing.

Exactly the same thing happened to me in Chester after the infamous Wrexham match in 2003. I had a broken foot and was sent flying across the train platform. All I wanted to do was meet my girlfriend who lived in Chester at the time. Absolute scumbag that copper was/is.

I hope that this idiot in question here loses his job.
