In a surprising move, Port Vale have allowed goalkeeper Chris Neal to join Bury on loan until the end of the season. The move is somewhat of a shock as Neal has been playing for Vale’s first-team for the last five games, including the win over Peterborough United when he was favoured over fit-again Jak(...)

Looks like Rob Page has made his choice. I guess the fact that Neal is out of contract in the summer and the younger Alnwick is on a long-term deal played a part but Page's comments also seem to suggest he wasn't that impressed with the goals conceded against Posh last week.

I suspect Chris Neal is one of our higher paid players so it may release a bit of cash if Page wants to bring a loanee in before the deadline.

Pope's injured and out of action isn't he for 6 weeks?

It makes financial sense although I quite like Neal and think he's a decent keeper.

You certainly couldn't blame him for the first goal last week. Maybe his positioning was a bit awry for the second but it was a good shot. De Gea let one in last night that was worse and he's supposedly the best in the land.

I'll be sorry to see Neal go - if he does depart - but if we can put it towards a decent striker it makes complete sense.

I thought there was a rule that a player could only play for two clubs in one season. Neal will have played for three clubs in a matter of weeks.

I think the rule is for loan players to play for no more than two clubs.

It is three in a season, checked with the 'In Brief' legal website, quoted below -

Are there any rules in place which limit how many clubs a player can play for in one season?

Currently under the FIFA Transfer Regulations a football player is unable to play for more than three teams in one season.
