Injuries Usa

What kind of injuries have they got?..

Is Roe the left back who looks decent....?

No. Think that is Green.

Roe-Hamstring

Rico-Ankle.

Ive always thought ankle injuries are one of the worst you can get.

Ive done my ankle 7 times and it just becomes weaker every time you stretch or snap your peroneal tendon.

If he comes back too soon it could be worse.

I wouldnt be too hopeful of Rico making the Crawley game.

Agree Paul,

Rico has got be very carefull with an ankle injury and will miss out on alot of running and a bit of match time with this injury.

Our main centre forward could be missing the start of the season so this will mean Justin and Williamson starting up front i would of thought.

It also means Micky will be stepping up the search for another striker surely!

Plastic grass pitches aren't that bad these days it only the bounce of the ball that is different and the ground is harder but plenty of pitches in summer are hard after a dry spell.

If a grass pitch goes hard, you can water it. If a plastic pitch is hard, it stays hard.

They are bad news, more injuries and they are not football specific as they are a different surface to grass. You don't see Phil Taylor practicing with paper dart boards do you? Torville and Dean on fake Ice? 100 meter runners on grass? NO, you train on the surfaces in which your sport is played. First rule of training, specificity!

Load of bull****, have you read how they got injured, they had nothing to do with the pitch..

1. Artificial turf is laid on a suitable surface that has the required amount of cushion whatever the weather. It can be watered to reduce the surface temperature in hot conditions..

2. My guess would be that many sports teams train on artificial turf. In Vale's case, it would be great to have artificial turf available at home, in the winter, when regular training surfaces are unplayable.

How do you know they had nothing to do with the pitch? Are you the Port Vale physio? Are you in the States?

Here I present you with some scientific research on artificial surfaces:

COMPARISON OF SPEED AND AGILITY PERFORMANCE OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYERS ON FIELD TURF AND NATURAL GRASS

Author(s): Gains, GL (Gains, Graydon L.)2; Swedenhjelm, AN (Swedenhjelm, Andy N.)2; Mayhew, JL (Mayhew, Jerry L.)2,3; Bird, HM (Bird, H. Michael)4; Houser, JJ (Houser, Jeremy J.)1,5

Source: JOURNAL OF STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING RESEARCH Volume: 24 Issue: 10 Pages: 2613-2617 DOI: 10.1519/JSC.0b013e3181eccdf8 Published: OCT 2010

- Concluded that change-of-direction speed may be significantly faster on artificial grass. If this is true, risk of injury is higher.

Risk of injury on third-generation artificial turf in Norwegian professional football

Author(s): Bjorneboe, J (Bjorneboe, John)1; Bahr, R (Bahr, Roald)1; Andersen, TE (Andersen, Thor Einar)1

Source: BRITISH JOURNAL OF SPORTS MEDICINE Volume: 44 Issue: 11 Pages: 794-798 DOI: 10.1136/bjsm.2010.073783 Published: SEP 2010

- concluded that No significant differences were detected in injury rate or pattern between 3GAT and NG in Norwegian male professional football.

Synthetic turf: risk of the onset of muscular-skeletal lesions in young football players

Author(s): Di Tante, V (Di Tante, V.)1; Stefani, L (Stefani, L.)1; Pruna, R (Pruna, R.)2; Mercuri, R (Mercuri, R.)1; Galanti, G (Galanti, G.)1

Source: MEDICINA DELLO SPORT Volume: 63 Issue: 2 Pages: 265-275 Published: JUN 2010

- Concluded that in the results it emerged that training on synthetic turf increases the risk of muscle and tendon pathologies. Risk of injury is that? Bull**** my ****!

The Effect of Playing Surface on Injury Rate A Review of the Current Literature

Author(s): Dragoo, JL (Dragoo, Jason L.)1; Braun, HJ (Braun, Hillary J.)1

Source: SPORTS MEDICINE Volume: 40 Issue: 11 Pages: 981-990 Published: 2010

- Many peer reviewed studies cite a higher overall rate of injury on first- and second-generation artificial turf surfaces compared with natural grass

Incidence of Injury Among Adolescent Soccer Players: A Comparative Study of Artificial and Natural Grass Turfs

Author(s): Aoki, H (Aoki, Haruhito)1,2; Kohno, T (Kohno, Terushige)2,3; Fujiya, H (Fujiya, Hiroto)2,3; Kato, H (Kato, Haruyasu)2,3; Yatabe, K (Yatabe, Kanaka)2,3; Morikawa, T (Morikawa, Tsuguo)4; Seki, J (Seki, Jun)5

Source: CLINICAL JOURNAL OF SPORT MEDICINE Volume: 20 Issue: 1 Pages: 1-7 Published: JAN 2010

- Conclusion: Players routinely training on AT for prolonged periods should be carefully monitored, even on AT conforming to new standards. Does this mean that they may be at greater risk for using plastic pitches???

So out of all of the scientific research that I found, only 1 of them said they could not find risk, all of the others did. Now lets remember that your opinion in the eyes of science is "bull****" as you said.

Plastic pitches will be a nightmare, and should only be used when grass cannot be in dodgy weather.

Enjoy the reads mate ;)
