He was superb until Xmas, capped by his memorable goal against Shrewsbury.

After that he was garbage, perhaps partly as a result of Gannon not rating him and partly because he lost his focus. He stood on the edge of his own penalty trying to ping 60-70 yard passes all over the pitch and never got forward or showed any imagination in his game.

Morsy was as good - so with Burge in as well - Roberts has a lot to prove.

At his best he is a very good player, but if fails to deliver he risks throwing away his whole career.

I'm pleased he's staying because he won't get better support from fans anywhere.

I'd agree with much of that Sage except I think you're being a bit kind saying he as superb until Xmas - I thought he went off the boil a while before that. His performance at Dartford in November, when he was substituted at the interval, was nothing short of disgraceful.

 

Roberts has great natural ability but his problem is that the number on his back is pretty close to his IQ.

roberts is a must ........best passer in the division imho up to xmas under micky ......think that JG undermined not only his confidence but the whole team .....if he played for any other team in our division .......we'd all be saying we need a player like him in the centre

I agree completely about Roberts' passing ability (although I think he tries the Hollywood ball a bit too often) but my concern is that he went off the boil before Christmas when Micky Adams was still here. I'm not totally convinced that Adams will be able to keep him on the straight and narrow but I hope I'm wrong.
