£1.7Million budget is actually on a par.

Jean, doesn't the 60% salaries of turnover apply to the Championship? Depending on the answer I may get back to you with a supplementary Q :)

No it doesn't. They do have some sort of financial fair play rules in place but they seem to be meaningless because QPR smashed them to smithereens in their promotion season and have been told they are due a £50 million fine but it seems they are going to be allowed to play in the Championship next year whether they pay it or not.

PS. The total debt of clubs in the Championship during the season the spreadsheet refers to was a little under £1 billion!!

Thanks Jean, No supplementary Q :D

Whist most fans seem to be suicidal at the thought of the budget been cut, I've had a look to see what other Clubs tend to be spending on wages.

It seems Oldham have slashed theirs, Crewe I would say could only dream of an owner like Smurf. Yes I know we should be aiming higher but until Fans come out the woodwork, we arn't getting thousands more every week.

I then came across Swindon's from last Season. It was £1.8 Million with their Chairman refusing to put anymore in, infact saying he might reduce that figure. That was on gates of 8000. They could potentially get promotion on that. So £1.7 Million is actually a good figure.

Now we just have to find ways of increasing the fan base.

Agreed! HOWEVER.. We currently have 13 under contract, we have offered 13 more a contract (still yet to sign) ... And Page wants to sign 4-5 more players. Say all 13 sign up, that's 26 players right there on the books. If we sign 5 more players as mentioned by Page that's 31 players who would be classed as 'first teamers'. Ontop of this, we have a development squad - so at least another 15 there (who, albeit, are on lower wages - are still on a wage) so there are now 46 footballers at PVFC. On a lower budget - oh and we have a new PR Director (dunno what he actually does either) and now looking at new back room staff - all the while we have overheads weekly at the club.

I cannot understand how this is sustainable for a club like ours. We'll see about 20 (max) of the 40-odd players on our books - couldn't this money be utilised better? Realistically we should have a 20-24 squad & the loan system at our disposal. Maximising the value of the money we spend.

I like youth players and developing young lads but lets face it, if we have anyone half good they'll go for nothing. So it's quite pointless really.

1.7M is a phenomenal about of cash for PVFC to spend in wages.. Reduce the number of players and we could offer some players close to £100,000 a year to play for us. Quality players & not that retained list rubbish where the words 'talent, skill or ability' have not been mentioned once.

I fear we cannot sustain this , especially if we have a bad start to the season and low crowds

On the face of it that's fair comment. Just hoping the end result is that we 're-sign the three obvious candidates and not worry too much about the rest.
