Has anyone been watching these?

 

At the weekend I saw the Crystal Palace 4 Liverpool 3 and Oldham 3 Man Yoo 3. Sorry if that spoils the scores for anyone!

 

These matches were magnificent and I remember them well - especially the Palace match. Then just when you thought it couldn't get any better the Final itself was probably the best for many years. Probably the best I've ever seen.

 

Apart from the very short shorts, moustaches and general lack of media training what stuck out the most was the lack of diving and play acting. Ray Houghton got clattered in the box and didn't make a sound. Bryan Robson got winded. No rolling around - he just sat there. Ref asked him if he was ok - clearly said yep fine and got up again.

 

So sad the way football has now gone - 15 years and its all histrionics and hype. You might think football was crap back then but you'd be so wrong. There were things Peter Beardsley was doing on the pitch that even now are mesmerising. Oldham were absolutely leaking talent then too. Even the most basic player would walk into most Premiership teams if they had a foreign name.

 

We live in a poorer age for sportsmanship in football. Of that I'm sure.

When I talk about football it's either about Vale or about 60s and 70s football.Full of characters and no cheats ( except Francis Lee and Leeds:D).

Yes indeed, adds to the conspiracy theory that the FA don't want a side below the 2nd tier in the Cup final ala ourselves in '54 when West Brom got a dodgy penalty!

Having watched the Arsenal v Reading game on Saturday make that below the Premier League, not below the 2nd tier. 2 well dodgy offside decisions robbed Reading of decent chances to score.
