When should a game get replayed?

When Vale v Aldershot was abandoned for fog in the late 1980's it was replayed, even though there were only about 20 minutes or less left to play in the second half and Vale were 3-0 up. Vale won the rescheduled game, also in different filthy weather -mpouring rain. About 12 Aldershot fans were cheered heartily as they were 'rescued' from atop the open Hamil End and shepherded into the covered Railway Stand = ahhh,, memories.

 

I went to and enjoyed both, and as there was no OVF Forum then, there was no moaning about it or anyone saying they wouldn't attend unless the sun was shining. (this is not a dig at a great website, just an observation on some posters).

 

 

I remember that too. The fog just got thicker and thicker. And those shots fans getting beckoned into the Vale stand for shelter in the replay.

 

Splendid days.

England Women's U-19's are going to retake a penalty and replay the final 30-odd seconds of a qualifying match tonight.

 

How on earth anyone at any level can get that wrong is beyond me as it contravenes the laws of the game completely.

 

Good to see justice prevailed...

Hmm bon ami, I wonder if this creates a 'legal' precedence for all future games - both men and women competitions? :unsure:

 

Apparently it's happened before. When T&T with Birchall reached the WC Finals in 2006 the team they played in the play off to get there had also been the victims of the same error in an earlier round.

 

To be honest I can't fathom how any referee could get such a decision wrong and what was going through their heads. It totally contravenes the laws of the game, it's not like an opinion on a penalty or red card etc.
