Merry Xmas to most of you.

 

Enjoy your turkey (which, of course, as I'm sure you all know, is an immigrant bird, originally indigenous to another continent), I, for one, will be washing it down with some wine, probably from one of those pesky EU countries.

 

And don't forget to say a prayer for the little Jewish boy from an Arabic country on his birthday.

Well, a slightly late Happy Christmas to all and somehow I always like Boxing Day and the following days a bit better than Christmas Day - somehow feels like you can relax a bit more and of course there is football !

I'm not quite old enough to remember properly when there was football on Christmas Day, but it must have been great especialy as it seems teams played each other twice in 24 hours or just over and looking back at the records, Vale had a Christmas party to remember in the 1950s when they beat Gateshead 8-0 then 4-0 around this time of year.

As for tomorrow, I'm a bit wary of travelling down as the weather seems to be fine for the start of the match, but then a massive belt of snow and sleet moves in, possibly by the end of the game but certainly affecting travel back, so will have to see.

Perhaps we will have a repeat of a game from the 90s that sticks in my memory against West Brom at Vale Park where it was cold and dry in the first half, then aq massive snowstorm came in and I was in the open on the old Lorne Street side near the tunnel. It was bitter cold and the snow was very bad, but Vale won and it was worth it, despite the soaking. Could be in for a repeat against Sheffield United, though they would probably abandon it in similar conditions these days.
