Really!!! Yeats was my MOTM with Birchall not far behind. Goes to show how we all see a game differently.

 

What?!?! Birchall was awful!! That shot where he was in on goal and his shot went out for a throw summed his game up. Other than Williamson he was the Worst player.

I do partially agree with your comments regarding Micky Adams but that said Williamson stood head and shoulders above the rest for his lack of effort. Phil Sproson summed it up correctly last week when he said that Ben needs 5 clear chances to score 1 goal!

 

Ben W doesn't suffer from lack of effort but just doesn't have that all too important composure in front of goal.

 

I do fear Page's lack of tactical nous like his predecessor as it was clear to me as Tim commented previously that Vale should have brought Dodds on for Williamson to add a little craft to the front line and bolster the midfield. Also why Marshall wasn't subbed when he clearly had a hamstring pull. After that he moved inside because he was afraid to use his left foot.This kind of stupidity could well lead to a longer lay off.

 

Page's tactics worked with moving Marshall to play off N'Guessan, Marshall set up Vale's third goal and he does bring craft and pace to that role. Because of these skills and his work rate it gives Page the option to play Marshall (or Dodds) off the main striker or just behind the striker in a 5 man midfield. It was expected that Marshall would come off and he signaled himself to come off but he appeared to recover from whatever had beset him, I've seen no subsequent reports that Marshall has tweaked a hammy, if he had I'm sure he would have been substituted and/or we would have heard about it.

I really do think we should be playing a defensive midfielder, definitely away a d probably most home games dependant on the opposition. The amount of space we gave mk today was embarrassing.
