It should be a two way street, I bet their sales spike when we sign a player or have a big win, or get promoted. What do we get in return? a line tagged on the bottom of an article about the next games ticket prices?

 

This is how football is now. If someone can charge you to publish a list of fixtures then we deserve a share of the sentinel's profit when reporting on us.

My better half has just pointed out that if the Sentinel were to pay £10,000 to the Vale then such a contract would prevent Smurf from stopping their attendance and they could print what the hell they wanted. He might not like that!!

The sentinel sell papers because of us, stoke and crewe. They should offer the club some consideration.

 

Whether £10k is too little or too much I don' know, but they should pay for the right to have inside access to the club.

Tell me one other local newspaper, or any newspaper for that matter, which pays to report on football? It is a relationship from which club and newspaper benefit. Suggesting a charge of this nature is crazy.

Unfortunately I don't have access to agreements between every newspaper and football club.

 

I'm not saying they shouldn't be able to report the matches, but the inside stuff, the press conferences, the interviews, the open door (usual) policy doesn't have to be free, in my opinion.

Are you saying that when ITV comes along and interviews players or the manager on the training pitch we should charge them as well? Are you saying when a national paper came along to do a bit on Tom Pope's goalscoring last season we should have charged them? Are you really saying that any news item about Vale other than a match report should be paid for by the media concerned???

Was it right to ask the questions that it did?

 

No and yes, in my view.

 

I think that NS's reaction is beyond naive.
