  1. Congratulations great performance thoroughly deserved, good luck in L1. It should be an exciting season for you guys as L1 seems to get stronger each season as big Champ teams drop in and don't find it as easy as they think. It will be strange from a Bradford City fan view not having yous next season as recent history always seemed to have us joined at the hip 😁 I think you have got out of this L2 hell hole at just the right time as next season I think will be very tough with lots of teams being competitive, I think Mark Hughes will finally get our house in order and get us at the right end, the play off losers will all be strong, Stockport and possibly Grimsby coming up will both be solid, Crewe apart those coming down will be strong and horrible Salford I think will get it together at last and to add to that a few of this seasons failures should definitely improve like Orient and Tranmere. Good luck and all the best and hopefully see you in L1 soon

  3. A day in a lifetime that will rarely be seen by anyone. I feel totally blessed to have witnessed that and shared it with my old man of near on 70 years. Time we never get back, but experiences like that one never leave the memory bank. I’ll look back on that in 30 years… (let’s hope it’s not that long again, before we get back in a position like that :) ) and those players, the management team, the leadership at the top, gave us those moments. Congratulations to them all and thank you! Memories that I’m so grateful for [emoji1319] From start to finish we deserved that, the previous 3 games, have defined that performance, grit, determination, expressiveness, composure and above all willingness to give your all for everyone around you - what a club!! It’s hard to pick anyone out, they were all superb…. But a few that I’d like to mention, Wilson… wow superb, never say I’m done attitude, I am not sure he goes through any game without looking like he needs to come off (rubbing his hammy today) but he played superb, great little finish and ran Mansfield a mock with some of his skill and movement!!! Benning….. class act, for a split second I thought he wasn’t going to celebrate his goal… but then must’ve thought, this is a play off final, I’ve scored… let’s do this! His goal capped off a likely MoM performance. They were all awesome, it was a superb day, I’m incredibly proud to call Vale MY CLUB. Darrell Clarke, the emotion, the hurt, the commitment to this club, you thoroughly deserve the support and more you’ve been given, 5 years is just the tip of the iceberg, I’m full of so much admiration and humility for DC, we all talk about leadership, but your the epitome of it. A man whom is progressive, grounded and spirited, which transfers to everyone of us. Thank you DC!! [emoji170][emoji460]️ League 1 here we come, watch out, we’re coming in full steam ahead!!! UTV

  4. I'm walking on air this morning, and can't quite believe it. It feels like a great big block of concrete has been lifted off my chest and I can breathe again. All those years of struggle, crap results against crap teams, fighting against relegation, seeing an idiot in charge nearly ruin the club. And then watching this group of men pull together and battle to make sure a vital game was won. Loved listening to Carol's post match interview - "Darrell's going on holiday tomorrow, David Flitcroft is going nowhere!" and "we've shredded the plan we had for league 2 next season". Already planning ahead to make sure we are stronger next season. Thank you Carol, thank you Darell and Andy, and thank you Vale - you have made an old man feel very happy. This really is a little bit of heaven on earth.

  5. I think Clough got it very wrong, he played his diamond on a massive pitch against us with our full backs and every time we played that switch pass they were in deep trouble, Wilson’s threaded pass for the first was sublime. Swindon players saying we are not good footballers… some of the stuff we’ve played the past two games has been exquisite

  6. Eeee...it were a grand day out! Nice easy run down, got to the ground with about an hour to go. Parked within 10 minutes walk from the stadium. Awesome performance from the whole team - yes, even including Aiden Stone who didn't do too much wrong...fumbled one but saved a good un! Rest of the defence rarely put a foot wrong...Tom Pett and Ben Garrity were everywhere. Jake Taylor's best moment was replayed on TV - let's not forget he's still a little match rusty. Mal Benning's best game for us. Willo will be awesome for us, next season. And I'm so chuffed for young Kian - if we can get him back next season, in any capacity, we should - he's grown in stature and his contributions have been impressive! With Captain Tom to come back...hopefully...nest season, and the likes of Dan Jones and Brad Walker to return, i'd be tempted to keep this squad together and do any tweaking in the January window? Certainly no more than 3 players, maybe, to be re[eased and replaced? A great result with performance to match - so pleased for DC / AC all the backroom staff and our wonderful owners! And let's have some mentions for the neutrals who've wished us well, and for the Mansfield fans who sang their hearts out, for most of the game, and even Cloughie who was clearly disappointed, but honest in his appraisal that the best team won! It certainly did!

  7. I don't know if this has been mentioned but one of my favourite moments (apart from DC's dance moves) was when the loan lads Harratt and Edmondson came over arm-in-arm to salute our section of the ground. It must be very easy to go on loan somewhere and not really connect, be that bothered because it's not your parent club but those two have been exceptional in how they have fitted in and how their passion for Vale to succeed has come across. It speaks volumes for Flitcroft's desire to bring in the right characters. I've been going since the early 80's and I can't remember any other loanees who has been as dedicated to the cause both on and off the pitch as those two. For me, they will always be welcome at VP regardless of what team's shirt they are wearing. Class acts, the pair of them. EDIT: Edmondson not Charsley as originally posted

  8. MANSFIELD TOWN fans deserve full credit for showing huge respect to Daryl Clarke yesterday at Wembley. When they started the round of applause relating to Daryl Clarke. Football fans from whatever club regularly receive bad publicity. But a fantastic gesture such as what Mansfield Town fans started was first class. Good luck to Mansfield Town and their supporters for a successful promotion campaign next season. edit: robf - tweak to post headline

  9. Just wasn't very Port Vale, yesterday. Felt like the turning of a chapter. It just isn't something we'd do under previous owners, and I wasn't relaxed until the third went in. The 5-minute spell from the 20th-24th minute is going down in our history. I was impatient for success and I don't regret it - yesterday won't be forgotten by any of us, ever. Too many brilliant things and performances to mention, but everything is dwarfed by Clarke. His tribute to Ellie was heartbreaking and I hope he and his family have a deserved break so that they can start healing. Clarke has 5 promotions in 10 full seasons in management. We've genuinely got a special manager and I'm delighted he feels like this is the place he wants to be long-term. We go again. Top 6 next year. I want it now.

  10. Was home just before 9pm (we live in Cambridge) in time to watch EFL on Quest, watched it again at 10 on +1, spent the next one and a half hours reading the threads on here, twitter and any other media outlet before to bed. 5 hours sleep and just spent the last hour checking yesterday was not all just a dream. IT WASN’T!!!!!!!! UTV See you all in League 1!

  11. Please, please, please can someone upload the full Swindon home game and yesterdays game!! Want to savour them for a little while longer. shout out to all the fans yesterday thought it was a great atmosphere from both sets of fans. Mutual respect for Mansfield, sadly one team has to leave having lost but you did so graciously having sang your hearts out for your guys in the second half. All the best for next season. Oh and, trounce Swindon for us boys!! Never has their been a more arrogant club and bunch of fans!

  13. Here is my update We went from the Robin Hood Norton. The coach broke down at Banbury,70 miles from Wembley. With two lads we walked across motorways and dual carriageways the nearest train station.Train wouldn't get there till 4-45. Grabbed a taxi...4 of us...£160 split between us.Traffic terrible so got out,ran to nearest train station. No trains could get us there in time.Took an Uber and spent another £12. Ran to Wembley Got there just in time to see 2nd goal £85 for match tickets,75 for coach plus the taxis...expensive day. Fortunately we managed to get on a Stantons coach back cos there's some spare seats. Long day. But worth it and oh so memorable. I think we saved our best performance of the season today. And on to League 1 we go

  15. What a day, box park and Wealdstone fc both amazing. Vale fans amazing, Mansfield fans amazing and gracious in the circumstances. That was for you DC! For you Carol! And for us all! All the crap we’ve suffered in recent years made that feel extra special, it was our moment and what a set of boys! Great to see! Fair play to Mansfield too, massive difference compared to Swindon (Baudry got owned by Gibbo on twitter for his bitter comments!) Vale are going up!

  16. Home and after re watching the highlights on quest alls I can say is wow. What a day, got emotional seeing Clarke at times but I’m so proud to have him as vale manager. Game was literally perfect, should have won by more than 3-0. It’s a shame for Benning that Wilson was just that good today for MOTM. I thought Benning was immense all game, Taylor was class on the ball as well but that performance from Wilson was as good as I’ve seen for a while from a vale player, literally miles ahead. We battered them, I hope they do well next season, manager magnanimous in defeat and they’re fans were class 2nd half I thought. What a day and what a team, we need to sign Benning up and if possibly get Harratt for another season. That was also worralls best game all season. Time to try and get some sleep. Clarke, Crosby, carol, staff, players - all <ovf censored> amazing. What. A. club.

  17. What a day. What a club. What a man Darrell Clarke is. They were all magnificent today, but James Wilson's first touch gives me a funny feeling in my tummy. He is liquid football. Up. The. Beautiful. Vale.🤍💛🖤

  20. There's been a general 'downtroddenness' around Port Vale since about 2003. As much as we all love the club, it has quite possibly been the most wretched spell in living memory, worsened by our closest rivals enjoying a golden decade of Europe, Old Trafford trips, and an FA Cup final. Although we went up in 12/13, it was built on fragile foundations and the bump back down to earth was inevitable. Up until yesterday, the individual highlight of my footballing life was Stoke getting relegated - indicative of the state we've been in. We had dangerous owners for 20 years, and administration was always a more likely proposition than promotion. An entire generation of fans went down the road. In the years we were finishing 18th-20th in League 2, the atmosphere at the club was as bleak as it got. It was a futile scramble for survival for its own sake. Quiet, empty games, diabolical football, in a crumbling stadium. Throughout your formative years, I feel your football club has a big influence on your character. I'd come to expect disappointment, and resist optimism, as previous experience had taught me it always ended badly. School was a fairly predictable cycle of getting rinsed. I played Sunday League for years but never wore my Vale top to training, despite always buying pre-season, for fear of the ribbing. Football was a family affair - whilst I love this, there just wasn't many lads my age who went to Vale. They all went to Stoke. We just never seemed to be one of those clubs which did good things. I have stronger memories of being deeply involved in protest movements than I do celebrating success. I was left to scratch around for crumbs, such as beating Stoke youth teams and Crewe. I feel a bit of a weight has lifted since full-time yesterday. Going up yesterday was so, so important - to give the fans that sort of experience was vital medicine to two decades of bad treatment. It felt like therapy, waltzing our way to promotion under the arch. It, in a way, made the cold evenings stood clutching banners outside the Lorne Street, or getting threatened with legal action by a certain former owner, worth it. Losing would have been yet another blow, and, whilst we may have gone again next year, it just would have felt a bit Port Vale. Disappointment. Dog's abuse from the rivals. I'm aware it's all a bit 'look at me', but there's loads of Vale fans like myself; failure deeply ingrained in them, unable to give any stick to rival fans, having to accept unyielding micky-taking since we can remember. More memories of protests than promotions. 'Memorable' moments being getting hammered at Man City. We need to turn the page here. 2000-2020 needs to be consigned to history, perhaps the worst 20 year spell since we got kicked out the league in the early 1900s. I don't want the young kids I saw singing The Wonder of You yesterday to have to endure the same 20 years we have. I want them turning up at school and giving their mates utter hellfire. Vale shirts everywhere. Stoke fans twitching. Crewe, Walsall, Swindon left in the dust. Forced rivalries gone. Bit of success. Into these, Vale.

  25. We were talking with one of their fans on the train back to High Wycombe. He was really complimentary about our performance saying we had them worked out in no time and in control of our game management. Very civilized as was the whole set up at Wembley. That's how a game of this magnitude should be done, mutual respect and excellent support from both sets of fans. Both the Vale and football in general were the winners yesterday. So proud I can't tell you utv

  26. Had to pause and freeze a few times to see who put the ball for Worrall for the 2nd goal. Jake Taylor. He also put a killer ball inside Mclaughlin in the first half worthy of higher grade football. Of course we are all on cloud nine and doe eyed but I really hope now that Jake can become a valuable member of squad and injury free

  27. Fantastic performance from every one of the lads top marks to all, don’t want single anyone out as they were all my men of the match! 28. Haven’t had chance to read the thread yet so will catch up tomorrow. But what a day. By far and away the best moment of my life supporting vale. I was pretty emotional at full time. After everything we’ve been through the last few years, and especially this season, it just felt amazing. Especially made up for Clarke after what he’s been through, no one deserves this more than him. Don’t know if everyone’s seen his interview on sky after the game about his daughter, if not give it a watch. Really emotional stuff. Couldn’t be prouder to have him as our manager.

  29. Wilson unsurprisingly got MOM, but I thought that Taylor was superb. But that's not taking anything away from anyone's performance. We were just better all over the park than them. Plus their indiscipline I feel was a major factor.

  31. Stags fan here. Good things happen to good people. When you turned us over at your place in March, your staff couldn't do enough for us, we'd lost our tickets and the lady behind the window couldn't have been more helpful if I was her own son, the steward at the turnstile came across to the window and took it upon himself to ensure that we got in, at half time we saw one of your stewards playing football with a balloon with one of our young fans. We actually looked at each other at this point and said that it was a nice club and wrote to the club then to tell them that they were good people. That culture doesn't happen by accident, it's by design and comes from the top. Your owners are clearly good people, and David Flitcroft is a good person - when David Flitcroft was our manager a lot of us felt re-engaged with our club in a way that we hadn't in years - and I can see that you have with your club a similar thing to what we had with him - and fortunately we still have. We all know about our links with Darrell, who is one of our own, and Sir Mal, who, somehow, is even more revered now despite scoring against us, in a play off final, at Wembley. We had a lot of fun with your fans yesterday, I was ambushed on the train down by a family of 9 (hi Andy and Sarah) and we shared beers, jokes, songs, piss taking, and we swapped numbers to meet again at some point in the future. It was everything lower league football should be (apart from the result) I hope you do well next year, and look forward to crossing paths soon.

  33. Stags fan in peace, best team won yesterday, no complaints. Your fans were a credit to you, I spoke with a few of you around the ground and you’re a club from an area like us, working class, proper fans. But I knew that anyway, I’ve been a Stags season ticket holder for almost 40 years and fondly recall the ding dongs we’ve had with you, especially in the 80’s when you had Earle, Walker, Andy Jones etc. Gutted of course, but delighted for Clarkey and Mal. All the best next season, lads.

  36. I think yesterday highlighted how important it is being out of league 2 and to be playing on better playing surfaces. Because our class shined through when we could get the ball down and play. We looked like a higher division outfit than mansfield. Wilson looked seriously good. If we can get harratt back next season i will be over the moon as his development over the short time we had him is there for everyone to see and he will play much higher up in the leagues if he carrys on the way hes going. A class january addition as have hall charsley and edmondson. Many fans berated our business in January but the majority have turned out to be brilliant business and have all contributed. Just shows that we need to trust the process and get behind whatever decision darrell carol and flickers think is right and they all know a hell of a lot more about it than we do. If we stick to our job being supporters than i am certain more positive times are to come. UP THE VALE

  37. Agreed . And they really made some noise early second half despite the circumstances. What I'd call a proper club supported by proper people. It's easy after we've won to heap praise but we beat Swindon and I've nothing but relegation to wish on that entitled bunch of Southern( ish ) softies . Mansfield a bit like ourselves had crap Injury problems. You'd expect them to be thereabouts but football doesn't work like that . Their fans were excellent and gracious in defeat.

  38. What a performance that was. Wilson - what a player. If it had been Salah or Mane who had played that pass to Benning for our first, the pundits would have needed a box of Kleenex and a cigarette. As it was, not much was made of it. Absolute quality in terms of vision and execution IMHO. Harratt - he's barely played since February, he's young and raw, and he's a lot to learn. To put in the performances, in those circumstances, that he has in the last 2 games is incredible. He will play in the Championship mark my words if he keeps developing. Hope we have him back next season for his trademark stooping headers inside the 6 yard box alone! Hall - immense. 5x the player we swopped him for. Benning - A completely different player since February. Don't know what took him so long but I think he's earned a new deal if he wants it. Garrity - My player of the season. His goals from midfield have been crucial. Pett - Very much underrated. Taylor - after missing most of the season, he has come back and shown the form of his loan spell. Big headache to pick a midfield trio next season. Everybody else - All have played their part in a fantastic season. Oh, and I thought the referee was excellent. Just shows the difference in standard between the lower and upper leagues. DF, DC and AC deserve all the plaudits for assembling a squad like this over 2 transfer windows, and having the guts and belief to release the vast majority of a poor ageing squad that we had less than 12 months ago, who were actually on more money than those brought in. I'm sure the targets will be set high next season, and rightly so with this squad. 3 or 4 quality additions covering GK, defence and attack, and I think we'll be midtable at least, which would suit me just fine.

  40. What a fantastic day. My first time seeing Vale at Wembley. I think I was pinching myself at 2-0 up and them down to 10 men, surely it couldn’t have been this easy for the Vale, given all the years of pain we have had??? At 3-0 my nerves finally settled and it was time to enjoy the celebrations. As others have said, HUGE credit to Darrell, the back room staff, Carol and Kevin and the players. What a team, what a club! (Also thanks to Gary from Telford, the fan I chatted to on the way down to Euston from New St for the stories and conversation, and to Mike and the other chaps from London and Essex outside the Euston Tap for the pint 🍺)

  44. Nathan Smith has not been mentioned much in what was yet another solid defensive defensive display especially despite there being VAR it didn’t seem to stop him employing his mastery of the dark arts of defending (I’ve only really noticed him doing it this season). TV only picked up Hawkins’ reaction but did anyone notice what Smudge actually did to wind up Hawkins sufficiently for him to try and rip Smudge’s throat out?

  45. Watched the highlights of Division Two Play Off Final and for me it has to be one PORT VALE'S greatest ever days. To go to Wembley and play to a man fantastically well was so overwhelming. For the fantastic supporters of PORT VALE FC, as well as what is indescribable what Daryl Clarke and his family have gone through. I can't put it into words how much RESPECT I have for DARYL CLARKE. Never mind Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp being top managers. MANAGER OF THE SEASON FOR ME IS DARYL CLARKE. You will always be held in the highest esteem by all football fans and foremost PVFC.
