Tommy Cheadles rant

The idea to get folks in earlier maybe ok, as long as folks know what the rules are. If then, folks go in to town, then Vale with have to live with it. Personally its the last place I would go to until its rebuilt. As for the shop, the closure was announced on NYD due to "stocktaking".

The powers to be, reduced the price of all draft beer to £2 per pint,so now Tommys is getting busier. As for not being allowed in after 2.30, the place was packed and the premise licence states no alcohol can be served after 2.45. How many staff do people think can safely work in such a small space or are they not bothered about H&S. Rome was not built in a day so give the new owners a chance, and start complaining if things dont alter by the seasons end.

Should have the bar set up like at forest green,no problem there & there were more fans there that in Tommies on new years day, What happened to the re-playing of the last match on the tv's Dave ? I can get ITV 2+1 on my own tv. :(

Me, my girlfriend & my girlfriends brother got turned away too cos we weren't 18, the bouncers told us that kids weren't allowed in without adults and then said ' you aren't allowed in whether you're buying a pint of coke or a bag of crisps, some stupid pub in burslem will let kids like you in'

I think you've answered you own question about being refused admission when you stated "There was 12 of us" Maybe the doormen did'nt like the fact there was a gang of you. I'm not saying it's right but maybe they were hoping to keep things quiet with no potential problems from a large group of people so close to kick-off.

I agree with you, turning money away when the new owners have stated they want fans to spend money at the ground makes no business sense.

There is usually anywhere between 8 and 15 on us dependent on work commitments etc... but even when 15 of us have gone to Tommy's in the past we've never had a problem getting in, until the NYD game. When we do decide to go to Tommy's we usually arrive anywhere between 2:10 and 2:30 and like I said it has never been a problem before!

Why would you risk going to the ground late anyway? You don't watch the match sober do you?

Tommys is a **** hole.... Cheap beer but stinks and looks a fluffing mess!! Really hope the new owners make it up to date and stylish with more bars and more staff then I will definatly nip in there each game, and don't mind paying the extra 30p on a pint as long as it looks cool and lavish.... Just looks the same as 30 years ago..... I wasn't born 30 years ago but I can imagine not much has changed?? It's an embarrassment too name that five after an ex football player... Should be names the Lodey bar!! If your depressed and down on your luck, visit the Lodey bar where we can take you further in the depths of depression!!

I havent been in for a couple of seasons, but it sounds like aint got much better.

(have they still got them tables that look like they pinched them from a canteen?)

Im no marketing expert but im sure there is alot of potential for expanding the facility to appeal to more people.

Obviously if there is still an issue with getting surved then that needs sorting.(do they still not use that other bar at the back?).

Get some of them 'speedy pumps' that they have in large stadiums

Clean the place up, and i mean total revamp, changing layout etc if need be. get pool tables, dart boards, quiz machine, real ale, etc in, get some of the memorabilia in there.

IMO people only use it because it is the closest boozer(cant get much closer) and Surely if its a good facility, people will want to use it on non-matchdays too

Thanks for clearing this up mate. Unfortunately, despite the positive changes at Port Vale over the last few months and the fact that we lie 2nd in the table, certain supporters will still seek out any gripe possible. I notice one of the responders to this thread, I'm not naming any names, but he had "fallen out of the habit" of going to Vale and blamed the previous board for this, despite the fact they are long gone. I have not seen a post of his for a while, however set him up for a good moan and he's back like a flash.

Anyway, thank you for clearing this up, now they can go back to moaning about the state of the Paddock toilets, or the shortfall of burgers.

A group of us turned up for a quick couple of pints in Tommy Cheadles at 14:30 just before yesterday's game only to be told by the bouncers that we could not go in. They said that it was a new policy that at half two they now stop anyone entering Tommy Cheadles.

What I can't understand is why? Why would the club turn away business? Why not open until after kick off because if someone turns up at 14:55 or existing customers want an extra pint and they miss kick off then that's their fault. I know that it wasnt because Tommy's was full as 5 minutes earlier I had spoken to a work colleague on the phone who was already in there, so why turn business away?

There was 12 of us and at least another 5 or 6 people who were turned away which probably equates to £30-£50 worth of business lost, just seems a bit short sighted when the new owners said they were going to try and maximise the profits of the business. Now if this happens every game and half an hour before the game 50 odd people are turned away that's at least £100 worth (based on 1 pint sold per person, some people may have more) of profit per game lost, based on just league games that's £2400 per season and this would be more as it does not include any food or snacks sold. All just for the sake of a stupid policy!

As you can imagine we were all a little bemused!

Did anyone else have the same problem?

Lets hope these new owners start sorting these small but very annoying issues out. Like you say if you want to stay in there till 3:15 have an extra pint and miss kick off that's your problem. Why kick you out if you are willing to spend money?? Another issue that wound me up on Tuesday was the "pay on the gate" in the railway and family stand... Pointless. If we are having pay on the gate then we have it all the ground not just one part. The que at the ticket office on Tuesday was a joke. We may be towards the top of league 2 but we still have non league tin pot ideas
