Tommy Cheadles rant

Recommended Posts

A group of us turned up for a quick couple of pints in Tommy Cheadles at 14:30 just before yesterday's game only to be told by the bouncers that we could not go in. They said that it was a new policy that at half two they now stop anyone entering Tommy Cheadles.

What I can't understand is why? Why would the club turn away business? Why not open until after kick off because if someone turns up at 14:55 or existing customers want an extra pint and they miss kick off then that's their fault. I know that it wasnt because Tommy's was full as 5 minutes earlier I had spoken to a work colleague on the phone who was already in there, so why turn business away?

There was 12 of us and at least another 5 or 6 people who were turned away which probably equates to £30-£50 worth of business lost, just seems a bit short sighted when the new owners said they were going to try and maximise the profits of the business. Now if this happens every game and half an hour before the game 50 odd people are turned away that's at least £100 worth (based on 1 pint sold per person, some people may have more) of profit per game lost, based on just league games that's £2400 per season and this would be more as it does not include any food or snacks sold. All just for the sake of a stupid policy!

As you can imagine we were all a little bemused!

Did anyone else have the same problem?

There are too many jobsworths working for Vale who think they are bigger than their stature and do not apply the best law of all.... common sense.

If that is really the case and the policy was made by Norman or Paul then i would be hugely surprised.

Hardly the greatest business idea ever.

Agreed. It should be easy to spend money at VP. The whole catering side needs root and branch re-organization.

The powers to be, reduced the price of all draft beer to £2 per pint,so now Tommys is getting busier. As for not being allowed in after 2.30, the place was packed and the premise licence states no alcohol can be served after 2.45. How many staff do people think can safely work in such a small space or are they not bothered about H&S. Rome was not built in a day so give the new owners a chance, and start complaining if things dont alter by the seasons end.

I wasn't aware the the premise license was only until 2:45, but I do understand that there has to be a H&S policy in place for fire regulations etc... However at the time we got to Tommy's it was just before 2:30 therefore we should have 15-20 minutes to get a quick pint in before the game, therefore the only reason we would not have gained access would be due to it being full. But after previously speaking to a work colleague who said that it was starting to emptying out, plus coupled with the fact people were coming out as we wanted to go in and looking through the window there was plenty of space so I still don't see why we were refused access, afterall it wasn't like we turned up at 2:45 of after.
