iBoom Boom - was it a red?

What is the opinion around the tackle which resulted in a red card?

What was the Radio Stoke take on it?

This is what i saw - Rob Taylor plays a back pass to Chris Neal which is intercepted by their player who squares to a Team mate. Boom comes accross to attempt a last ditch tackle to stop an open goal.

The angle means that even if he gets there first he is likely to kick the ball against the player probably resulting in a goal regardless

From my position that is what i thought happened and the referee reacted to the severity of the injury and not the tackle.

I'm sure i am not alone in wishing the lad a speedy recovery.

No it wasn't red, Boom wouldnt of even been spoken to if it had not been a broken leg. Booking at most in open play.

Just one of them freak accidents that happen in football. Best of luck to Nicholls

P.s. the vale fans having a go at Nicholls and shouting for him to get off the pitch should be ashamed.

Same ones that were smoking in the toilets, peeing in the sinks and damaging advertising hoardings I'm afraid.

Had the misfortune of watching it on SSN and it was the most blatant red card i've seen in a good while. Nowhere near the ball and nearly ripped his lower leg off.

I'm sorry but just because a tackle isn't two footed doesn't mean it shouldn't be treated as a red card offence.

He certainly didn't mean it but it was a terrible challenge. Had trouble watching it.

Try watching it without the commentary.

To be a red card it has to be with excessive force or denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity.

A reckless challenge is not a red card. I'll see if the FL show it.

Believe me, it was excessive force and it was late. The lad had already scored and got poleaxed. The point of contact was similar to the Martin Taylor one on Eduardo a couple of years ago. Except fortunately this time the lad's leg was in mid-air at the time. If it was on the deck I think the tackle could of easily taken his leg apart.

I watched it on mute and it was still a red. Sorry but you really need to watch it again.

I've watched it several times in slo-mo. That's in addition to seeing it at the match where the Northampton players were so upset by the challenge that not a single one of them confronted McCombe.

Well I didn't have the pleasure of seeing it live but watching it on the TV was enough.

Honestly, I think Boom is a cracking player but that tackle was disgusting. He went for the ball clearly but missed it by a mile. Red card all day, every day.

He didn't miss it by a mile - he missed it by a fraction of a second. You see tackles like that in every match and fortunately, they don't produce the same result. It was a far less dangerous challenge than the one on Neal in the D&R match when the bloke went really late at his head. It was very unfortunate but it wasn't disgusting.
