Match thread - Wigan v Port Vale

Featured Replies

Absolutely shocking performance & even worse result. DM and the players want a bloody good shake after that.

I feared the worst with the red. Any other team wins that, not us, it’s the PV / DM charity gala again.

Low on confidence after a winless streak? Down to 10 men? There you go, have three points on us. You’re welcome.

Why does scoring seem so flaming difficult? Why has this defence always seemingly got a mistake in it despite us being ultra cautious? Why is the play so slow & pedantic constantly? Why do we load on tall, physical players yet either not put any crosses into the box, or just really sh!t ones? What role is Garrity supposed to be playing, because he’s done bugger all for me and certainly doesn’t get in before Croasdale  or Ojo and arguably Walters atm.

I’m sorry, but 1 point is a really poor return from the last two games in hindsight given how both have gone, and doesn’t bode well for us.

I said it from the start, this season will be one of ‘hard luck’ stories. I just hope we are the right side of the line but I’d say that was in the balance at the moment.

This is right up there with Walsall (H) and Barrow (H) last year for me.

Another horrendous defensive mistake leading to a completely unnecessary, unforced, stupid goal.

Why would you head it across your own defensive line?

I think we have been poor today and as you say it's a mistake that's cost us which has been the same for the majority of goals we have conceded this season

This is how we go though,we started the season well(not results obviously) playing wise but couldn't buy a win,we then go on a decent little unbeaten run which ends today, the trick now is to try and go on another little run. On to the next one

Onwards and Upwards me owd fruits

That was as bad as we have played all season and I lay most of the blame with DM. Bringing all the strikers on left us with no cohesion in midfield so we lost control when the sending off should have given us control. It would have been better to pack the midfield take control and force them back.

Garrity is way off it and isn't worth his place and we were crying out for croasdale in mdifield. Faal just keeps giving the ball away because his first touch is terrible and why he brought walters on with minutes left on the clock is anyone's guess. Johnson looks decent and we defended ok apart from curtis with his moment of madness but Im not going to be too harsh because he shouldn't really be there and he had a poor game in general for me.

Yes the referee was poor saydee just jumped into players fell over and got the free kick every time but it wasn't the refs fault our midfield and forward play was so bad. We started badly and got worse as the game went on.

Have to put that down as a bad day at the office and move on.

We definitely missed Croasdale's presence today.

These pops at Bowers is silly imo and what you called him there is a bit uncalled for,Phil Bowers is a massive Vale fan fact and i for one actually like his commentary

Each to their own though i guess

I proper hate it when people bring up that Bowers is a massive Vale fan. That does not equate to him being a good commentator.

You are a massive Vale fan, does not mean that you are any good to play centre mid for Vale next weekend

Is Garrity at RCB? Utter lunacy Darren

I thought Garrity actually played really well when he switched positions

I can’t for the life of me understand why he didn’t switch to 4-3-3 at HT. Not leave it 15 mins, go a goal down, then completely crap himself in making 4 subs which was never going to work.

It's coming...

I think you are on the wrong thread mate........ you are after the mucky movies one 😉

I know it worked against Barnsley but IMO DM shouldn't have started Brown today and as a result we should go back to playing Ruari and Devante up front as you could see that they were developing a decent partnership together.

It wasn’t great prior to the goal and what a shambles of one to concede but I’m not sure what the plan was for us after we fell behind. Ronan isn’t a wingback and while get using him as a stopgap that can’t be any more than that. Garrity nothing but respect for him but call it what it is he was garbage in this game and if you’re going to point fingers and blame deflect etc you better make sure you’re holding up your end of the bargain.

Guess we’ve managed to make it until October for our first real dire performance which is better than we’re used to, just need to make sure it doesn’t repeat.

Poor team.selection cost us today

Not a dig at you for once Nippy but who would you have started with differently, just interested because not many if any moaned about the team when it was announced,I liked the look of Johnson when he came on but i would think him not starting was just down to fitness, maybe Paton instead of Brown but i still think Brown just shades it after Barnsley but now we have lost I have no idea who will start with Cole v Stockport

I would start with Ruari and Devante for Stockport simply because from the games they have played together you can see a decent partnership developing between the 2 of them.

Very poor today and probably our worst 90 minutes of the season. A scrappy first half was only livened by a harsh red card. The second half was worse. Wigan went to the dark arts and who can blame them when the referee let them get away with it. A poor goal was given away from Curtis's header then Moore reverted to type when we are chasing a game by putting on as many forwards as possible. This hasn't worked before and didn't again. Forwards were getting in each others way and we didn't create anything of note. We need to stretch a ten man team  to create space so four forwards isn't the way. We got we deserved today. Nowt.

It’s the only game that partnership has worked, Brown was poor again today. Paton and Cole was working very well before the Arsenal game yet once again Paton is sidelined.

Yes, absolutely mental. The game was there for the taking and Moore should have seized on it by going to a back four and putting on an extra midfielder to get complete control of the midfield or going 433. Instead we lose the initiative, wait until we concede and then randomly throw on every forward we’ve got in a desperate attempt to rescue the game.

One point above the drop zone and we’ll soon be back in it unless DM gets a grip.

Sort it out, Dazza!
