The game against Tranmere will be a good measure in particular - a club similar to Vale in stadium size and support living in a city with a top division club and having a good manager in charge in Ronnie Moore. When we played them last season in the Paint Pot we were lucky not to be 5-0 down after 20 minutes, but then the players got up to speed and were unlucky to go out on penalties in the end. Shuker used to play for Tranmere of course. They represent a reasonable next step for Vale to aspire to.

2nd half team: Neil, Owen, Davis, McDonald, Yates, Shuker, James, Murphy, Vincent, Williams, Lloyd. Spelling mistake in programme Vale no11 is apparently Tom Rope.

I assume you decided to play along with the program? :)

Edge, If they win all their friendly games I wouldn't be surprise if they go into the opening games thinking it will be a walk in the Park, and lose with an unflattering performance as has been the case several times in recent seasons!

I remember the time when the Vale put Steve/Denis (?) Butler in charge, and we won every pre-season game and we all thought we were going up. We promptly lost the first 5 league games of the season and Butler got the sack.

I agree we need a good chasing around the park, which hopefully one of the next two games (probably both) should provide.

Then lets see how we go on in the league!

I dont think any of the team are going to be getting too carried away with six victories against non-league opposition. The Tranmere and Coventry games may tell us something more but they're still friendlies and mean jack-**** in the grand scheme of things. So if we win to some it'll be because Tranmere and Coventry didnt try because they're friendlies, and if we lose we'll be going down into non-league next year!! Its great to be a Vale fan sometimes

Nice to have you over lads. Good for us to be back watching a match in Terryland Park.

You badly need to play some proper teams before the season kicks off though. This wasn't a Galway United team. It was a selection of players from the local amateur league and are out of season. A couple of them have League of Ireland experience worth talking about. Considering you beat Athlone 5-0, I think they can be happy at keeping it down to 3-0. The Galway keepers made some very good saves.

Best of luck for the season lads.
