Are we getting enough competition from these games. Seems like we are strolling.

I agree. It'd be good to play someone better than us so we can do some work defensively. Also, if we play a better team and spend the game chasing the ball around it'll improve our fitness.

We were led to believe that Mickey & Rob were going to play, but that was a wind-up from them to Guy Pearson, the Senitel Reporter. It didn't help with 5 of the Shiven team were missing due to a wedding and the youth team were brought on for the last 15mins. But at least it was free entry to the game! The Shiven Team put up a good fight first half with more shots on target then the Athlone Team did. Vale only opened the scoring 15mins before half time. All I can say is if the Vale midfield feed Pope the balls like they did last night then he will score more goals this season.

Guy Pearson had the luck of the draw. Steve Shaw was forced to go through an intense training session during pre-season in America last year. You can bet it would be a Romany wedding. Popey must have caught the lucky heather! Vale2010 is correct - both the Coventry and Tranmere friendly games will provide a much sterner test and will give fans and Micky Adams a far better indication of where the lads are at.

The Irish teams look too weak for us after the local non league games. We will be tested against Coventry and Tranmere, but the likes of Hartlepool were playing a Sunderland 11 and winning 1-0 tonight. The best I can say is that playing weaker teams allows you to form your attacking shape, freekicks and corners whilst having a high level of possession. That can be good ahead of playing a better side who will challenge possession and also challenge the defending which probably isn't needed presently. Hope the players are bonding.
