Compared with when I last did live in the Potteries - 1958 to 1987 - it's a super clean place now. But I take that some aspects can still be a problem.

Tell the people who live in Pool Dam and Silverdale that.

What the folk in Silverdale, Knutton, Thistleberry and surrounding areas including the town centre and Royal Stoke have to go through is a disgrace, Red Industries should be prosecuted, it's a mystery to me how they have got away extending a landfill so close to residential properties.

Apologies to people suffering from this outfit. I don't live locally anymore. Also Knutton and Silverdale aren't places I visit when I do return (on foot, bus and train these days). So I'm not up to speed.

However, I obviously did live in Stoke on Trent and Newcastle Under Lyme in the era of coal mining, steel works, coking works, oil and, to a lesser extent, the pottery industry of the 60s / 70s / 80's. So I can say overall it's much cleaner. Of course, I lament the passing of a lot of this at the same time - strange.

If there is the slightest crumb of comfort, the huge landfill where I live (Bidston on the Wirral) has been restored to an excellent green space after it was finally full.
