Why does he deserve it? The captain isn't the best player? Its the best organiser and communicator! The link between the team and the ref, and very often the manager. I think it should be McCombe!

I don't understand how Loft deserves it, he's the best player but not necessarily the best captain.

who else!!? got to be loft! our best player by a mile last season. other players need to look up to him, versatile, 90minute man, strong, likes the tackle, attacking, scores goals, amazing... when you find another player like him, then there is reason for a debate, personally, lofty wins it hands down. Fantastic player. :-)

Loft and McCombe both lead by example, rather than shouting at players and organising. For me it should be the most vocal like Stockley used to be for us. So Artel is a good shout. Don't know a lot about many of the new lads to judge the others, and the old guard well there is not many I'd say are captain material

I think it would be morally wrong to give the armband to Artell. He's new to the club and needs to prove himself as a leader and get respect off the other players. What he did at Crewe doesnt count. It's the same for any individual going to any new job. You very rarely give someone new authority its asking for trouble and could lead to mutiny in the dressing room. So no give it Mccombe- he's earned it for taking responsibility for scoring goals to paper over the cracks that other strikers were leaving.

The captain should be a leader!! I don't see leader qualities in any of the remaining squad from last season. Neither Loft or McCombe give the impression of captain qualities, despite their efforts on the pitch, neither are vocal enough. I'd imagine Artell is a good shout but until we see the new lads on the pitch it's hard to tell.
