And sadly for him I don't think he ever fulfilled his talent and never really progressed after leaving us. It's happened to a lot of players. Jones. McPhee. Constantine.

Taylor and Earle did well but a number flopped, though I know some of them had bad injuries.

 

Gosh. What we'd now give for a front two of Jones and McPhee in their prime!

Didn't he suffer with injuries during his Norwich time ? However, have to say that his return of 8 goals in 38 games didn't warrant his fee. Only went on to score a further 11 competitive goals, all for Oldham. Still nearly 100 goals in just over 300 games isn't bad for a player who was half bought by Vale fans.

McPhee was slightly different, because as I remember he was under 23 and so Vale were entitled to a tribunal fee for him even though he was out of contract. But his agent found a loophole whereby if he went abroad this arrangement was inapplicable. Consequently he went to Portugal for a year and then surprise surprise re emerged on these shores 12 months later on a free.
