Port Vale owner tells OVF that he's left with “daunting task” as he considers offers

I personally think that those initial estimates were so far off that regardless of any amends, the group don't appear to have the right ideas to take Vale forward. If you add in the hedge fund element as well then I would deeply worry if they were to buy Vale.

As for the other hedge fund - the USA group - again the word hedge fund is concerning but until any proposals are produced I can't see how any judgement can be made on them either.

Without a board of directors (Not always perfect} a Chairman does not have a sounding board. Having a closed or elite group is one method, the other is to have an open group either a newspaper or a web site. Items can then be posted, discussed, summarised and returned. In the current situation live communication is too emotional. Whether either Hedge Fund is willing to publish its plans for public gaze who knows? Are there any other realistic options?

Fair play Rob getting the info from Smurf for this article. Having to balance your own opinions, acquiring good content for the site, keep Norman's ego happy to ensure engagement doesn't cease completely.

You never know what you're going to get with Norman. He's been on and off twitter / OVF so many times it's hard to keep up. Within the space of a week he's started and stopped posting, he's instigated a poll, he's banned himself from reading the site, and now he's providing content for a feature.

Well, that's my view and I explained more on another thread. My reasoning is here -

I don't expect everyone will agree but for what it's worth, that's my view...

You've got to hand it to the man. He really is unbelievable. Quite literally.

Yesterday. Official statement.........

"Going forward there will be no dialogue regarding football matters via social media"

24 hours later..........

"In an email conversation with OVF, which he is happy for OVF to publish Smurthwaite told this website...."

Done well there, Norm.

The alternative is not to talk to a journalist directly. There is a difference from being on line himself.

I've certainly failed to retain dialogue with him, despite repeated attempts. He's such a difficult person to deal with that it doesn't take much for him to throw his toys out of the pram. For what it's worth, despite not agreeing with a lot of what he posted last week, I felt it went quite well. There wasn't any abuse thrown his way that I saw on here, and yet he's obviously seen something that's led to him refusing to post and read the site anymore, according to the statement.

You would have to be a tad concerned about the Norwegian bid after they got their initial 'estimates' slightly out, would they have realised had there not been fits of online laughter! I look forward to their revised figures.

I think he meant being on forum threads and Twitter rather than releasing statements or answering questions from "journalists". Whether I am a proper journalist or not, the process was very much that of a prepared statement (i.e. I asked questions, he answered, I wrote it, he approved it before I published). I think the key difference there is it is prepared and NOT immediate. I guess with no contact with the Sentinel it limits his choices though I'd have no problem with them speaking to them rather than OVF.
