Dunkirk - 75th anniversary

Nice to see the few veterans on the beaches at Dunkirk once more.

Very very few of them left now.

It means a lot to me as my dad - who passed away a long time ago now - was a sergeant with the KSLI and was one of the many whose lives were saved at Dunkirk in 1940. He stood in the sea all night waiting to get picked up. Luckily he survived but caught pneumonia and ended up in hospital for 6 weeks.

But they were carved out of oak then weren't they? And he got back on his horse, ending up in North Africa and then on the Anzio (where he got wounded) before returning to blighty, and marrying my mum.

I salute them all but one in particular.

Sorry for the self-indulgence but days like today mean a lot to me.

Well said that man. We owe the greatest debt of thanks possible to these brilliant people.
