This is of course true but also Rudge was lucky not having to work with the present incumbents, can anyone imagine Bratt and co risking the £200,000 we paid out for Dean Glover? That was a he'll of a lot of money for a club like ours back then, and what about the money we got for Jon McCarthy, does anyone think that a third of that would have been reinvested to buy Gareth Ainsworth? I very much suspect not!

 

Yes, it's true that Bell needed Rudge but I will guarantee you one thing, Rudge would never have flourished and brought us the success that he did if he had to work with these clowns!

Thats the dream ticket., Wish Rob would get his legal team to make an offer for 51% of the club, even these ***** couldnt refuse to sell to RW.

Yes, I still dream of the Vale under Rudgie sometimes at night (even without cheese at bedtime), and always wake up smiling. They were great days, maybe the best we will ever have in my lifetime, but the point about crowds is a good one - we couldn't sustain our dominance over Stoke for long enough to change the culture in the city of Stoke being the bigger team. Doubt we ever will now, given the gulf in investment at both clubs. But it was great to be admired by other teams for the way we played, and have everyone recognise Rudgie (does Alex Ferguson think that Vale fans should go down on bended knee for Micky Adams?). There was a real pride in being a Vale fan back then, and although I will always be proud of my club, the shine has been taken off it by the present board. My son still doesn't believe it when I show him youtube clips of us against Arsenal, Everton, Liverpool holding our own. And yes, Rudgie should be remembered at Vale Park in some way - if any other club had been dragged up by it's bootstraps the way he pulled us up, there would be a stand, a road, a statue or something to commemorate him. It says a lot about the small minds at work at Vale Park that they can't recognise this, and that they have made getting the Sproson staue put up a marathon exercise. Petty, blinkered, grudge holding buffoons at the helm will always mean we are a small club I'm afraid. It would be nice to see how many people would turn up to watch the great man open the John Rudge stand though.

Well technically they already have turned down Robbie Williams by being as obstructive as possible with Mark Sims.

Maybe the fact that the club had just had to pay John Rudge about £250,000 thanks to the heroic Bill Bell had something to do with it. Oh, and Rudge deserved that money too.

 

I think it was a bit more than that, and you're right, he did deserve every penny!
