Just read on the BBC a comment from Wayne Rooney which seems to me to show how far removed these overpaid players are from the real world.

 

Having just had a dismal World Cup, finishing bottom of the group with no wins. Having the lowest crowd recorded at the new Wembley last Wednesday. Having dropped to 20th in the world rankings. And facing a general apathy from England supporters that are resigned to seeing England teams fail time after time at major tournaments, Rooney's comment was... "It's exciting times"...

We just seem to have too many players who have a an awful lot of promise but never seem to reach anything like their full potential. Jack Wilshere being a prime example. A few years ago he was the best player on the pitch against a superb Barcelona side and looked like he had the footballing world at his feet, and yet bar the odd game here and there he now looks unable to just even stay upright at times, while both his goal-scoring and assist record for such a talented player is appalling. Perhaps our youngsters in the main are too over-hyped, but I think it's much more of a case that they get far too much too soon.

Sturridge is a big loss but I'd play Rooney up top and bring in jagielka into defence and play Jones in front of the back 4, going to need some steel in the midfield on Monday. I'm not a proponent of this type of tactic but with the injuries and players available it's the best option.

 

I'd prefer to see Welbeck up top myself. At least he will stretch their defence and give the Norwegian defenders something to think about which might give the likes of Rooney and Sterling a bit more space to create things.
