Graham Westley

Recommended Posts

Quote from Clarke Carlisle a few weeks ago:

"The other manager I wouldn’t endorse was Graham Westley at Preston. GW, as he referred to himself in text messages, strode in when appointed and made a favourable impression with his ethos and reasoning. Then it all came crumbling down.

‘My kids don’t call me dad,’ he said. ‘They call me medal winner.’ I waited to see if it was intended as humorous, but it wasn’t. Oh dear.

I could hear a few giggles and chuckles, but generally the mood was of disbelief."

I've not got a problem with the cards we get. Most of the time they are. It's the opposition doing the same and not getting cards that is the problem. And as per Westley's interview if officials are saying we know what you're up to, regarding injuries etc, then they clearly have a perception of us before we've even kicked a ball and logic would suggest that that is going to result in a discrimatory treatment. Like how Suarez can get studded knee high but the ref will assume he's faking it.

I agree it's hard to be objective or impartial on the matter. Just like it's hard for refs to when they hear and believe things about us. But it is their job to be objective and treat each incident on its merits not on what badge they are wearing.

The more noise we make about it the more we might balance the perceptions.

They moan about being prejudiced on there, yet one of them even talks about 'drinks breaks'.

Apart from his spell at Farnborough Town (in the Conference, 14 months) and Preston (he lasted there 13 months, what were they thinking?), the last 10 years of his managerial career has been his 3 stints at Stevenage. It speaks volumes.

It looks like Popey is about as impressed as us! There are some brilliant quotes in there:

"This is football, it isn't rugby," he added.

"If that's how he wants to build his players up to be then fine. I would rather work with my mates than play for him."

IF that clown is still at Stevenage when we play them in March then I will give that game a miss.No way do I want to pay out good money to watch his style of what is supposed to be football. No way do i want to be subsidising any of that.
