Personally I think we’re done if we’re having to play Lowe in midfield. We’ve looked hopeless whenever he’s been moved there. He’s a steady CB but we can’t have him in midfield

If it happens it’d only be a short term measure but certainly not a viable option for more than that. Say what you will about other areas of the pitch but since being here Flitcrofts work in recruiting midfielders has been really good so it’s an area of the pitch I’m more optimistic we could cover.

I quite like how blatant we have been in the exit interview questions around selling the club to new players:

Literally every question was designed for that purpose:

    - How were you welcomed?

    - Did you enjoy having lots of game time?

    - Did you learn lots from the coaching staff?

    - Were your family welcomed?

    - Did you benefit from passing on your knowledge to younger players?

    - What would you say to any player with the option to join port vale --> Take the opportunity was Alfie's answer

So at least we milked that for all we can. Only worry is that with all loan players going back and new additions it will feel like the first few games of the season. Atleast on the plus side we are being more adaptable recently to fitting our style of play to the players on the pitch.

Yeah they haven’t even tried to hide it and quite rightly. Did the same with Ollie if you watch his interview back.

Some Tottenham fans are twitter saying that we are signing Jamie Donley on loan from them

I’d be stunned if we did get him. Think he’s been making their bench. Think there’s been talk they might loan out Soonsup-Bell so maybe that might be on if we were interested of course?

  4. While it doesn’t soften the blow of losing great talents like him and Arblaster Vale have been quite smart with doing these informercials / interviews to show future loanees and their parent clubs. Did the same with Ollie getting them at the end to recommend coming here and it’s good that both of them seem more than happy to put their name to it too

  5. If you’re going down this model loaning players then you need to be prepared for this to happen. Carol in her interview a week ago said PL clubs were coming to us now offering players so we’ll see how well that holds up getting someone else in. If that’s right we should have a good selection of players on offer.

I’m a bit surprised with Alfie if their intention is to loan him to the Championship. Personally I think he’s not quite ready for that yet at least being a consistent starter at that level but we’ll see. Wish him well regardless.

  6. Frustrating as he was just really starting to show what he could do on a consistent basis since moving deeper. Guess it works both ways with these clauses as otherwise wouldn’t have been able to send Kofi back to Palace if it wasn’t there. Does leave us short now in midfield so would assume will be looking to accelerate getting in a replacement in short order, maybe Dan Gore at Man Utd on loan which I think one of UV’s hints pointed to a week or so back?

  7. Seen from a couple of the previous clubs he’s been loaned to saying his attitude didn’t seem great. One of the things Flitcroft has said last season they got wrong on the loans was the character side of things so am sure they’ll have looked at that and how he could fit in with the rest of the squad. In fairness their track record this season with all the loanees from a character perspective has been pretty much perfect.

There's this report here. I know it's just a rumour at the moment, but it would be a bit worrying if signed given that injury record during the first half of the season...

Sounds like he’d fit right in.

If Kofi goes back good luck to him. You can see he has the attributes to be a pretty decent defender but needs to cut out the mental errors. That certainly won’t cut it at this level never mind the PL.

Retirement. I thought Smith was good, but clearly Beterbiev is exceptional. No point hanging round not to fight him again. Time for a coaching career.

I’d agree there. Outside of maybe a domestic fight with say Yarde there’s not much else really and I don’t think the reward would match the risk in that sort of fight. Would have made good money going back to when he won the WBSS so can retire with his head held high.

Personally I think he will end up going for around 150k and a sell on,I have no idea what we have available but considering we were linked with a move for Stockton last season for around 150k would Young be worth taking the risk on for a similar fee?? He is young and has potential to make us money in the future

Yeah that sounds about right. I’ll just say though I hope (and am sure they are) the likes of Flitcroft are taking note for when it comes to setting an asking price for Garrity. I’ve said before set the asking price at a million for his production over a much longer period of time and make other clubs work toward us.

Incidentally with Stockton his name has been circulated to other clubs by Burton. Stevenage and Charlton (now JCH seems to have stalled) linked so far.

Also Fleetwood want Jack Marriott off the wage bill. Suspect it might not be the profile of player we’d go for but any takers there?

  11. Update from Alan Nixon on Jake Young this morning that Carlisle are in as well as ourselves and Exeter. Reportedly Bradford want £200k for him. Amazing what one decent spell in your career can do for your asking price even if he is still pretty young.

brad lyon's bid been accepted apparently midfielder from kilmarnock. Clearly knows crosby as he's northern irish

Think that’s off one of those dodgy rumours pages on Twitter. That page also said we are on a “playoff push” which is a good clue how much stock should put in it.

  13. I think Fleetwood and Carlisle will drop and feel pretty comfortable saying that. The other two spots I’ll say Reading as you never know when their next points deduction is round the corner and Shrewsbury. Money is tight there it seems and a manager who failed in his previous job and not doing great there it points to them.

For the record I think we will maintain daylight over the bottom four all the way which really is the bare minimum I’d expect of us.

I'm not a fan of these season long loans with a recall clause in the Jan window so the player can be recalled and sent to another club from a higher league or even a club in a higher position in the same league. Think it makes a bit of mockery for competion over a 46 game season allowing bigger clubs to cherry pick talent from the the 1st half the season.

Can you imagine the uproar if Blaster signs for Portsmouth,Bolton or Derby?

Hopefully we could take advantage ourselves but either way not a good thing for football.

I see what you mean on this but it does also work the other way in the event the loan isn’t working. Thinking back to last season if that clause wasn’t in place we’d have been stuck for the whole season with Thierry Small, Mipo and Liam McCarron as an example. It is frustrating but knowing that possibility is there you would expect a club loaning the player to have a contingency in place or a list of replacements drawn up.

Now he is the kind of player i really like the idea of us going for, will cost a decent fee and a sell on probably but at 22 has the potential maybe to become saleable he did come here and continued his league 2 form

From the interview Flitcroft did with Baggers for the Valiant he did say one of the things they were going to look at in this window was a "box finisher" as he called it which Young seems to be. Potential resale value in there too it does seem a signing that could tie in with how we want to do things.
