i really rate whitfield. I mentioned i'd like see us go in for him again last season but got laughed at. Having another good season at Barrow & he would fit in nicely in one of our 10s roles

If memory serves me right when he joined permanently Aspin had the hump with him about his agent and then he got bomb-squadded by Askey after he took over for what seemed to be implied to be non-footballing reasons whatever they were.

I know it's not what you meant .... but who was the loan signing who stayed longest. The only season long loan who did a full season I can remember is Butterworth. I think Plymouth had a few players who did back 2 back season loans. The only player I can think of is Remi Street but I think there was a gap.

Ben Whitfield I think lasted the whole season or at least from the point he signed on loan.

    Inching closer…

Have never known a Vale signing get given a stage by stage report on it like this. What it does show is how much work actually goes into getting one over the line even after the point of reaching agreement I guess.

Weren’t Arblaster and Devine unproven when they came here ?  Then you say Williams and Gore unproven ,

Agreed, particularly in the case of Arblaster when it was established we were signing him how many really thought he’d become a mainstay of the midfield like he did? Not many if we are being honest, Devine had similar billing from Tottenham fans as United are giving Gore but in reality neither had been proven at senior level.

The thread is relevant. If the manager and coaching staff at Shrewsbury are sacked it means they will struggle to attract and sign players in the remaining days of the window. Also players approached by other clubs are more likely to leave. All this provides advantage to Port Vale in this window when a main rival in L1 is disadvantaged.

Not sure it makes much difference in all honesty. Shrews also use the DOF model so in theory should just be business as usual for them.

I’m hoping in the remainder of the window we are still looking for an extra option to play LWB. Grant is improving as the season is getting on but it’s a risk to assume he’ll stay fit for the duration as well as the physical demands of the position (plus I think getting someone in could free him up to play in the middle when the opportunity allows).

  6. Looks like Bradford now asking for £500k for Jake Young. In other words no way is anyone daft enough to pay that for someone with one purple patch in his career. Can’t fault them for trying though, hopefully we adopt the same hard nosed approach on any bids. Carlisle also moved on to Jack Marriott now.

I've done a piece on the Brazier rumours on the front page. It may be useful if anyone is catching up. The response from Vale suggests these reports are hugely wide of the mark...

The more I think about it can only be his agent. Whether his motivation is trying to force Vales hand into offering him pro terms I don’t know. If it is the case of the agent playing games he should really stop and consider the potential negative effect on Brazier.

I know i'll get pelters for this, but I think Loft is a far better 'footballer' than Uche.  Uche's just brilliant at pulling defences all over the place.  I know Loft has taken over from Conlon/Benning/Jones (insert your favourite hated player here) - as Vale fans always seem to need someone to hate, but I still think he'll come good for us.

    Just my 2'

Not for me I’m afraid. There’s nothing I see that he does well enough to justify playing in L1. Uche isn’t great at it either but Lofts first touch is abysmal for a professional footballer. At least with Uche he occupies defenders and frees up Wilson to get on the ball without some lump from the likes of Wycombe or Stevenage trying to take him out.

I don't know why people are having a mental breakdown. I never said Ikpeazu doesn't have some worth as a player. I would also prefer to keep him now that we've got him fit at long last. But we've lost considerably better players in the past and done alright. There's not a chance the club would allow him to leave unless they had an adequate replacement. Surely. But whatever you think of him, he's a striker that scores less goals than some defenders. That's a fact, not an opinion.

The only issue I’ve got is if we don’t have something else lined up, you’d hope we did anyway since Thomas went back to Swansea. Guess the other thing is regardless what else people think about Uche him being the physical presence has allowed Wilson to go out and do what he does without taking a battering.

Granted permission to speak to other clubs? That’s him off then. The January strengthening appears to be underway as usual. Given that Charlton have just bought Clarke Harris, I hope Uche has a nice warm coat, as he won’t be getting off their bench much.

I just hope we are not that stupid, unless there is another class, proven striker lined up. Uche has impressed me recently and I’d be pleased if he extended.

Any takers for Loft? Course not!

That JCH move fell through as they couldn’t agree personal terms. We couldn’t move Loft on unfortunately as he’s played for two clubs this season.

    Dan gore passed a medical???
    Do loans signing have medicals??
    Anyone hearing this

Would have thought a medical for anyone is standard practice whether loan or permanent. Not doing one would be the kind of thing would have done under Smurthwaite. Not sure about him specifically other than the report yesterday in the Telegraph that we were interested in loaning him.
