Maybe I just expected a little much from Devine. But some Spurs fan genuinely talk about him as Maddison's understudy from next season. I just don't see that happening at all. He's a million miles away from that sort of level yet.

I think Alfie was somewhat a slow starter albeit I felt he looked decent enough at the start but say compared to Arblaster he came to us after the season started so has taken a different path with getting used to his teammates and what we are asking of him etc. I'd say he looks one of our best players each week now. I think he will ultimately be a very good PL player but yeah he's certainly not ready yet. My expectation would be say Plymouth stay up they loan him to them to play Championship level next season then start including him thereafter.

  2. If and I don’t for one second think it’s accurate re Garrity as he is legitimately injured then £300k would be a huge insult for a midfielder with his goal tally and 18 months remaining. That would be the kind of deal I’d expect V2001 to cut. Barring release clauses which we don’t know might be in there I’d say set the asking price closer to a million and settle on around £6-700k plus some add-ons.

Makes you wonder why he’s been recalled unless Spurs want him to play in/be available for the first team otherwise he’ll just be limited to non-league (u23) football.

Think had seen an interview with Big Ange where he said it was pretty much due to Scarlett not getting time on the pitch. That and they have the AFCON and Asian Cup on soon guess they just calculated to bring him back now.

Unofficial Vale with one of his critic pics…possibly Dan Gore.

Dan Gore has been in and around the England U20 setup I think. Maybe Blaster and Alfie have put a good word in for us to the other players in that setup?

They do some superb stuff like that Rob which allows them to pay half decent fees for good young national league or Premier Academy players, then they sell them on like with Toney and again this is the thing we want to do,we just need that big sell on kind of player to start the ball rolling where we can pay half decent fees... I will be amazed if we dont have a sell on with the Man City winger and the lad that went Villa but doubt it will be 30%

Only thing that makes me wonder with Ndala if we do or not is I'm guessing Smurthwaite was owning the club at that time he joined them and I wouldn't put it past him not to have had one inserted. Fingers crossed we did as that could be club altering.

  6. You’d have thought the Cowleys could have got a L1 job if they wanted. Think they’re from that neck of the woods so maybe that swung it for them.

One slight other one Adam Murray who helped here while DC was away from the club and became his assistant at Cheltenham has got himself another managers job at Eastbourne Borough in the sixth tier. Thought he was a pretty decent coach tbh.

Rumours on Facebook that walters is going sjoke / has agreed previously to join

If there's anything in that then it's probably wise for his own sake he doesn't get picked in the squad any more as the reaction would be unlike anything he has been used to before.

I'm going to be honest he's certainly entitled to look for the best deal but given the length of time negotiations had taken already according to Flitcroft he isn't as good as he thinks he is at least based on some of his more recent appearances. Very real chance he gets lost in the shuffle in U23's football if he did that.

That American lad we tried to sign but couldn’t get a visa for has just posted this

I don’t think it was a visa issue with that lad as he had a British passport. Couldn’t get international clearance so presumably he might have been still under contract with a club in America. Bit of a strange episode that was.

Mainstream pundits are far better off financially than becoming managers. Wasn’t that what Andy Gray stated when he worked for Sky and he was linked with a managers role. He stated he was earning £40k a week at Sky at the time.

Yeah I seem to remember that when people would link him with jobs usually at one of the clubs he played for. It’s true though and it’s far less stressful and very minimal risk of losing your job. Worst that can happen is when Alan Hansen had the “you don’t win things with kids” line thrown back at him for a few years after United won the league. Think most can live with that.

Possibly harsh... Shipped in to rescue his hometown club...    But to be fair did nothing to turn the club around in 8 games in charge and was the man that took Newcastle down...     Never touched management since...

Yeah think that put him off if for life. Much easier to be a pundit as Neville and Keane for that matter have found.

Another name who was a great player but as a manager had minimal success was Gianfranco Zola. Also remember John Barnes attempts at being a manager at Celtic and Tranmere.

What would you value him at?

Or a better way of phrasing it, what fee would we have to achieve to not be disappointed? For me I think that's £500k + add ons.

I could see something like that. Some of it would depend what sort of clauses he has in his contract. Regardless Vale should learn from how MacAnthony and Fry operate at Peterborough and put a hugely inflated asking price on and make any buying club work towards us so start it at a million and then see where we meet.

With Wilson signing will that mean we now wont target an experienced striker(poacher)? I do think Thomas will go back which is a shame as i think he has something like 3 goals in 6 games but we will probably replace him with another young striker

I love the transfer windows as the rumours will now start coming in,is Gibbons still fit at Bristol Rovers,is he even playing games, could that still be on? wouldn't mind seeing a fit Gibbo and Clarke as the wing backs with the young lads as back up

To be honest this is just my opinion but if Swansea were ok with it I’d like to keep Thomas for the full season. If we are going to play with two up top his pace could be a really nice string to our bow.

I’m hopeful we can hang on to Alfie Devine too for the season. You’d think Tottenham will be pleased we’ve given him the time on the pitch and he’s trending upwards. Guess the only complication could be the AFCON is on in January so maybe if they are hit by call ups that could have a potential knock on effect?

  13. Thought it was a fantastic result and thrilled to bits with the performance of the young lads. Shorrock was immense and Lomax did great too. Garrity you could tell wanted to do well against his former club.

I’ve been critical of Crosby and still am but he made a bold call this evening and it worked. That’s more the Vale I want to see playing with energy and I think the young lads who’ve come in have been no small part of that. Great way to end 2023 anyway.

  14. To he honest looking down the lineup this team will go as Alfie and Willo do which I expect to be the theme for the rest of the season. If both Ben and Jack can trap a ball that instantly upgrades on Massey and while I actually like Grant if they can run at a half decent clip then that adds something there.

  15. The right decision on Willo for me. In all honesty even if we get say 10 games of him that gives us more chance of points than being stuck with Loft for all the remaining ones. He’s looked sharp when he’s been on the pitch so just got to hope he can be a bit more lucky now.

Is this an opportunity for Sang in centre midfield 🤔

Swear had seen he’s picked up an injury though no idea how serious. I’d like to see it though. The other thing if we can find a natural LWB in this window gives us an option to move Grant centrally too I guess.

I’d go with Alfie in Oli’s role and then that frees up the option to maybe put Willo into one of those number 10 positions maybe? That’s of course assuming we are wedded to this formation which seems to be the case.

I think Conlon is done. It's sad how it's panned out as 2 years ago he was our best player.

Possibly too laborious for the way we try and play now. And if he couldn't make the bench v Barnsley then when will he .

Yeah I expect you’re probably right but if I remember rightly Funso is out for a few weeks too so maybe it could delay letting him go. Either way though the club have a whole window to address this in some form now so I’m not having any excuses from them on this, they will have known there was a risk of this as there is with any loanee so should have options lined up. If there is a bit of hope on it regardless what people think of recruitment in other positions our recruitment of midfielders has been pretty good overall since Flitcroft came to the club.
