Planning Ahead

Looking into the past for another thread, I remember my second promotion in the 69/70 season, when we went something like the first 19 games undefeated and still only scraped home in 4th for the last promotion place. That season, we played the then non-league Wigan 3 times in the cup and won the second replay, played at Old Trafford.

Let's not get carried away yet.

Stupidly gone and booked a holiday so that I fly out on last home game of season as fly back on last game. Absolutely gutted. Contemplating telling the Mrs she'll have to fly out on her own and ill get my own flight the day after.

Ditto. I miss the Wycombe away game. That'll probably feel like the Brighton away game, which seems like yesterday, but apparently it was 19 years ago. Nathan and Stupers told me that this is the longest run without a promotion for any current football league team.

Hopefully we'll have it all signed and sealed before than

I 'think' Coventry are the only team with a longer record of no promotions. A season or two longer than us.

From memory a mid 60s promotion to the top tier, the old Div 1. Of course Arsenal beat that easily, early 20s.

My planning has gone as far as to see which clubs I want dragged into the Champoinship relegation battle in the next few months. The bottom three looked like a foregone conclusion a month ago, but I wouldn't half enjoy seeing maybe a couple from Wolves, Bolton, Sheff Wed, Blackpool and/or Birmingham drop through the trap door come the end of April... Peterborough, Barnsley and Bristol City don't really wet my appetite. The gap is closing to the big boys game by game...

I'm holding off any further planning of a weekend away for the 1st week of May until I'm sure we'll get automatic promotion. 92% sure now (in line with the bookies), but would prefer to be 99%.
