as we have no team kit to buy could it be possible to get replica tee shirts of the strip sproson wore before the statue stands proud. It does sound short notice but it has been done before and there maybe copyright issues. Initial idea would be a white tee shirt with pvfc in place of the badge a number on the back with sproson's name across the top. Maybe black collar. Thoughts's... Proceed's could go to a fund etc

My mate Dave down here in Sidmouth played alongside Roy very briefly in 1968..I've asked him about this previously

How about issuing a superbly high quality special edition programme for the game chosen for the unveiling, with perhaps 16 pages of pictures, features, stats and more about Roy Sproson's career and life, and other related info on Phil and Jess Sproson - charge £5 for it and funds could be split between the club and family members perhaps. It would be a wonderful thing for any Vale fan to collect and could include

 

- Roys debut date and first goal, last game

- List of all 700-odd games Roy played in

- Feature on 53/54 and Roys part in it

- Pictures of Roy in his early days, in big matches, with other celebrities like Sir Stan, and as manager

- Tributes from those who played alongside or managed Roy

- Phil Spro input and details

- Jess Sproson info

- The 'story' of the statue and how it was funded, made and erected etc

 

Thats just a few ideas knocked up in five minutes, no doubt many other people could suggest better or additional ones.

Some great ideas here. Could Paine Proffit be approached to be produce a front cover/centre spread (ooh err) that would make it even more of a 'special' edition? I know he was shafted by the previous regime 12 months ago (i believe he was lined up to produce the seasons programme covers before the deal was pulled at the last minute but may be wrong) but am sure he would get involved if asked and reprints of the work could help to raise more funds for the cause. We've waited so long for this we need to make as big a deal of it as possible. We also need to say a massive thanks to all those involved in getting it sorted at the same time.

Must say I'm really disappointed nothing has happened on this front.

 

Opportunity missed. Surely administration can't prevent the statue from being erected? Would have added even more to the gate aswell.

Should be the new owner`s first job, thus making a big splash for a new commercial era and tying in with our history. Looks as if MA and team have started a new football era, early days I know but promising, let us hope the new commercial side can keep it going.
