The summer clear out should start soon and I hope top of Micky's list will be bringing a decent keeper. I'm sorry to say but both Tomlinson and Martin just arnt good enough.

 

If we are looking at realistically trying to get promotion next season then we have to bring in a more experienced keeper.

 

I know that we also need better players throughout the team but they always say you build a good team from the back so that starts with the men between the sticks.

 

I know that we let 5 in today and all wernt Martins fault as 2 were deflected goals and one was a screamer but over the cause of the season both keepers have made too many silly mistakes and for me don't command their areas well enough.

Get rid of them both. We do miss Goodlad big time.

And Martin is dreadful. Even when people were raving about him he was dreadful and he is worse now.

People raved about Martin because he was miles better than Joe Anyon. Now there was an overrated keeper! Martin hasn't progressed and I think most of that is down to poor coaching by Grew.

I did. And I disagree with pretty much everything you have said. Martin is nowhere near good enough and will be lucky to get a conference team.

I have to agree the common denominator is Grew. Apart from Goodlad, all the recent keepers have been dross and that has to be down to the way that they are being coached.

What did he do right? You could argue that a striker who never scores doesn't do anything wrong, but you'd expect them to do at least a few things right (ie score). A keeper needs to obviously deal with the easy stuff (ours struggle with that), but a decent keeper needs to stop what sometimes should be goals. A good keeper should be worth an extra goal or so every so often.

What did he do right? You could argue that a striker who never scores doesn't do anything wrong, but you'd expect them to do at least a few things right (ie score). A keeper needs to obviously deal with the easy stuff (ours struggle with that), but a decent keeper needs to stop what sometimes should be goals. A good keeper should be worth an extra goal or so every so often.

 

Agreed, a decent keeper can be worth an extra 4-5 points a season. Ours seem to cost us 5-10 points a season.
