Port Vale CEO – true fans need to report individuals damaging the club’s good name

The woman liner swapped sides in the second half, so she was on the Crewe side.

Having spent many away days with Vale fans and being quite often repulsed by the array of language and abuse of sexist and racist nature, this headline really didn't shock me.

The problem we've got is clowns thinkings discrimination is excusable in 'the heat of the moment' and any sane fan with a conscience who reports these Neanderthals are 'grassers', as opposed to people wanting to enjoy a game of football without wishing to see some form of discrimination.

Until this attitude changes, we're always going to be seen as that scummy, rough club, and are never going to diversify our fanbase away from the predominantly white male in between the ages of 30-55. I don't bring my family (especially the female members) due to the sort of incidents mentioned in this thread. These sort of incidents, where we get pulled up for discriminatory chants/remarks, happen nearly every season. Its becoming a pattern.

Sadly it's an indictment of the population of SOT and its environs as a whole. No wonder we keep being passed over for things like City of Culture and the C4 Headquarters. Someone has to take a stand; why not here and now?

Just knew I'd come on here to see some Gammon defence of sexist comments.

If you blame sexism/racism/homophobia on the 'atmosphere' and the 'heat of the moment', you've got real problems.

I've been in loads of great atmospheres and, through great effort and conviction, have managed to avoid sexist remarks. It was difficult lads, and I had to have a lie down, but through sheer willpower, by God I held my tongue, and I managed to treat women at a football game in a way that was non-discriminatory. Where's my knighthood?

I've happily reported Vale fans for racist comments to officials in the past, and will continue to do so as long as I go.

I'm still chuckling at the idea that discrimination becomes acceptable if there's a bit of chanting and things are a bit lively ahahahhahahaa.

Darren; what exactly is your comment referring to about the Queen's English? Would quite like you to explain it as I'm struggling to understand myself.

Santa is spot on; the fanbase is riddled with gammon. Get rid of them.

Pretty sure Gammon is said by some to be a racial slur against middle aged white men.

Is it ok to use language which can be interpreted as a racial slur when you are castigating others for discrimination?

No, it isn't a racial slur Beagle. Racial slurs often involve some form of oppression, of which the middle aged racist white man has suffered very little of. A Gammon is applied to anyone with the red-in-the-face rage of 'we need to get the forerners aht, and now!" A racial slur would apply to anyone who was white, whilst this just focuses on the thick ******, regardless of ethnicity (though conveniently they do fall into middle aged white, though I know a lot of young gammon)

Actually creasing at this I thought you were reasonably intelligent.

The oppression thing is a complete lie trumped up by lunatic left wingers a few years ago to give them license to be racist without consequence.

I'm fairly confident that no legitimate or legal definition of racism (or discrimination) includes reference to oppression.

Oppression can be racist. Racism can be oppression. But the two can clearly exist independently.

I don't disagree with your argument in this thread, I do think that it is hypocritical to use potential racial slurs to insult people who discriminate. There are plenty of more suitable and appropriate insults you can pick.

Is a white man calling a white man a gammon racist?

Please start a new thread if you want to discuss that.

I just don't like to see potential racial slurs used on a football forum as much as I don't want to hear potential sexist/racist/homophobic slurs in the stands, especially when we are having a discussion about discrimination.
