Jimmy McIlroy dies

Recommended Posts

Another footballing great leaves us with the passing of Ulsterman Jimmy McIlroy.

Mainly remembered and reveered for his time at Burnley, Jimmy also had a spell with our country cousins down the road.

I never had the pleasure of seeing him play live, but my father used to talk about him in the same breath as Vale favourite Ronnie Allen. From my father, that was indeed a compliment.

Another sad loss from the golden days of what was once upon a time the people’s game.

A bit hazy now but he was a good little inside forward if I remember correctly. Scored a few and had an eye for a pass. Typical Waddington signing. He signed a lot of classy players who were close the end of their careers and they brought Stoke great success.
